1. Which of the following would be an abbreviation and NOT an acronym.

Answer: ESE

ESE is the abbreviation here, same as it is in English, but in Spanish it is an abbr. for estesudeste. As for the acrónimos, here is what each signifies: RENFE = Red Nacional de Ferrocarriles Españoles; ONU = Organización de las Naciones Unidas; IVA = Impuesto sobre el Valor Añadido
2. Which of the following does NOT have the same accepted abbreviation in English and Spanish?

Answer: Dl for decalitros/decalitres

Dl is the accepted Spanish abreviatura for "decalitros" but for decalitres dkl is the only accepted abbreviation in English.
Although the initial capital letter is accepted in Spanish for "kilómetros", it is not a recognized abbreviation for kilometres in English.
3. The abbreviation for etcetera is different in Spanish than it is in English.

Answer: False

Being of Latin origin, the phrase is the same or similar in all Romance languages and from there was picked up by English. So it is etc. in most countries of the world using a Latin alphabet.
4. The Spanish abbreviation for "kilovatios-hora" (kilowatt-hours) is kWh. True or false?

Answer: True

Interesting that the word for Watt begins with a "v" in Spanish but the "w" remains in the abbreviation.
5. The only accepted abbreviation for the word "avenida" is avda.

Answer: False

"Avenida" is usually capitalized when abbreviated, but can be both Avda. and Av.
6. A.D. and B.C are commonly known as abbreviations in the Western World for the eras in which man has lived - Anno Dominae and Before Christ. What are the regular 2 Spanish equivalents to these?

Answer: d.C. y a.C.

"Después de Cristo" and "Antes de Cristo" are commonly written with lowercase a and d for the preposition and uppercase C for the proper name of Cristo.

Answer: True

If you have never written out and address to a Spanish Speaking country, then you may not know how common it is to use this abbreviation. In fact, it is uncommon to see the word "número" written out at all on mailing labels.
8. If you look in your textbook you might find that this is the abbreviation for capítulo.

Answer: cap.

If you need to edit this as a proofreader be sure you make it clear you are talking about the abbreviation for "capítulo" and not to capitalize the edited word.
9. The abbreviation for the word "página" has an accent over the a (so it would be pág.).

Answer: True

It is not uncommon for Spanish words with accent to keep the accent when abbreviated, such as 'pról.' for "prólogo" and 'cént.' for "céntimo."
10. The name "María" is so common it has its own abbreviation.

Answer: True

So many women have the name "María" in part of their own name that an abbreviation developed over time using the initial letter and superscript - Mª. Incidentally, if you want to write this a superscript quickly on a normal PC keyboard hold the alt key and press 166 on the number pad. 167 is o superscript (º)
