Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Of these countries, whose flag does NOT contain green?

Answer: Tuvalu

The Jamaican flag is made up of green and black divided by a gold diagonal cross. Dominica has a green background with a yellow and black cross with a coat-of-arms in the centre, Bangladesh has a green background with a red sun in the centre. Tuvalu has a Union Jack in the top left-hand corner, with yellow stars on a light blue background.
2. Very few countries have flags that do not contain at least one of the colours red, white and blue. One of these is Jamaica. What three colours does it consist of?

Answer: Yellow, green and black

The flag of Jamaica has a yellow diagonal cross that divides the flag into four sectors. The top and bottom sectors are green, while the left and right ones are black.
3. The flag of the Turks and Caicos Islands includes a UK Union Flag in its design. True or false?

Answer: True

The Turks and Caicos Islands are a British Overseas Territory, and the flag consists of a Blue Ensign with the Union Flag in the upper left corner and a yellow shield (depicting a cactus, lobster and conch shell) in the right half.
4. Bhutan's flag is comprised of yellow and orange diagonal halves, with a black and white what in the centre?

Answer: Dragon

The lion is prominent on the Sri Lankan flag, on a red background. The eagle can be identified on the Zambian flag, amongst others. There is no national flag sporting a horse. The dragon, although mythical, is centred on the flag of Bhutan.
5. Kenya and Swaziland have what symbols in common on their flags?

Answer: Shield and spear

Both have a red centre stripe. Kenya has a shield with crossed spears, whereas Swaziland has a shield and two parallel spears.
6. Mauritius and the Seychelles both sport blue, yellow, red and green. But which colour is not visible on the Mauritian flag but is on that of the Seychelles?

Answer: White

The fourth colour (counting from left to right) on the flag of the Seychelles is White. The flag is of a fanned array rather than the more traditional horizontal design of Mauritius.
7. Palau's flag is of similar design to that of Bangladesh. However the colours are different, which of these describes Palau's flag?

Answer: Blue & Yellow

The yellow sun and blue background is similar to the red sun on a green background of Bangladesh. They almost mimic that of Japan, however Palau's and Bagladesh's suns are slightly off-centre.
8. The three main colours of the Colombian, Ecuadorian and Venezuelan flags are what?

Answer: Red, Yellow, Blue

The three flags are all of a horizontal striped design of yellow, blue and red, in that order from top to bottom. The proportions of the stripes and the centre emblems are the differences.
9. What do the flags of Suriname, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Cameroon, Somalia and Vietnam have in common?

Answer: Centre five point star

Suriname, Burkina Faso, Cameroon and Vietnam all have a yellow five point star. Ghana's is black and Somalia has a white star.
10. Which of the following flags is a rectangle and not a square or triangle?

Answer: Eritrea

Nepal is the only national flag that does not have four sides, it has five. Vatican City and Switzerland have square flags.
