Answer: November 10, 1775

Formed in Philadelphia at Tun Tavern, the Marine Corps was originally under the supervision of the Commander of the Navy. Although the U.S. Marines now have their own identity in the military service, they are still in part with the navy. Every year on Nov. 10, the Marines have a social ball to celebrate their birthday where all enlisted men and officers get dressed up in the dress blues and attend the function.

The United States Air Force was officially dedicated to full military service in 1948. It was officially known as the Army Air Corps until getting its own identity.
