The sinking of the Titanic in 1912 led to the establishment of an International Ice Patrol along the North Atlantic ship lanes. Douglas Munro was a Signalman, First Class, during WW2. He was killed while attempting the evacuation of a battalion of marines trapped by enemy forces at Point Cruz Guadalcanal, on 27 September 1942. The other gallant men were also awarded the Medal of Honor but were in the U. S. Navy during WW2.
