1. Who owns Warwick Castle?

Answer: The Tussauds Group

As well as the various waxworks displays worldwide, the Tussauds Group owns The London Eye, Chessington World of Adventure, Alton Towers and Thorpe Park.
2. Whose deathmask can be seen in the Armoury?

Answer: Oliver Cromwell

A deathmask was made by covering the deceased's face in wax and then plaster until it dried.
3. Who did Elizabeth I grant the castle to in the 1560s?

Answer: Ambrose Dudley

Robert Dudley is believed by many to be the one true love of Elizabeth's life (although Thomas Seymour is also considered to be her one in amorata). His tomb can be seen in St Mary's Church adjacent to the castle.

Sir Fulke Greville was murdered by his servant, Ralph Haywood, in London in 1628.

Answer: Kingmaker

Richard Neville initially served Edward IV but when his influence started to wane he, along with the kings brother, imprisoned the King. The King escaped but after joining forces with the wife of the previous king (Margaret of Anjou/Henry VI)Richard Neville managed to restore Henry to the throne.
Edward was still free and at the battle of Barnet (1471)his troops beat those of Neville. Neville was captured, stripped and killed.
8. What is The Mound?

Answer: Norman defensive point

The Mound was built in 1068. It is the highest point of the castle and grounds and gives amazing views of the surrounding countryside. Always handy when trying to spot an advancing enemy!
9. How many Dukes of Warwick have there been?

Answer: 1

There has only been one Duke of Warwick (Henry Beauchamp). All the others have been Earls.
10. When was the last time that the castle was Crown Property?

Answer: 1604

On the death of Ambrose Dudley in 1590 the castle reverted to the crown (Elizabeth I). Elizabeth died in 1603 and in 1604 James I gave the castle to Sir Fulke Greville.
