People who don't know me like shop assistants etc saying as I am leaving...see you later. I always want to say could they remind me when this will be and when we arranged to meet up later.

'Fake news' is annoying because it's used so frequently and lazily usually without any research of justification. It's often used just to denigrate anything anyone says that people don't like, or by politicians to try and deflect criticism or discredit their opponents.

'Breaking News'. Seriously, if you want to spread news to people, why not just say- current news? News isn't brittle, if it was then why not 'broken news', because the news isn't still in the breaking process!

"It has to be said"................mostly, no it does not!

"It goes without saying"............so why say it?

"Can you keep a secret"?.........obviously you can't.

"For the last time ...."
We both know it ain't the last time

"I know what you are thinking."
No you don't.

"Don't look at me like that."
and
"Look at me when I am talking to you."
These two crack me up. And I have heard them most of my life.

Once, when I was looking for quizzes to adopt, one used a bunch of annoying phrases and I almost adopted it for that reason. To fix it because FT is too enjoyable have those kind of phrases in their quizzes. I ended up not adopting it. But I was seriously considering it!

I know this isn't related to the name of the thread but just want to know why people adopt other people's quizzes. Just write your own.

"No problem" used instead of "You're welcome".

Texting phrases like OMG, LOL, IMHO, etc. crossing over into verbal speech.

rubytops, an author cannot adopt a quiz until they have already written several.

Quiz adoption was started on the site to rework old quizzes to bring them up to current standards. One frequent reason for a quiz to be adopted is that it has no or inadequate "interesting information". One former quiz writer would simply repeat the correct answer as the information section. To get a more detailed answer you might ask your question on one of the authoring chat boards.

Is this the place to register a complaint about the very narcissistic American practice of naming U.S. cities the capital of the world for this that or the other thing? For example, some other global citizens might take issue with Las Vegas claiming to be 'The Entertainment Capital of the World', and Sin City isn't the only offender in this display of braggadocio..

I'd say nearly all US citizens have absolutely no sway whatsoever over what cities are or aren't called, officially or otherwise. Not really much that we non-narcissistic people here can do about it...

WHY do people have to say “passed away” when someone dies?

It sounds like the person is on vacation rather than DEAD!

It's called a euphemism, AJ.
