Be positive! Same as my attitude. Surprising how many ABs turned up - that's supposed to be the rarest. B+ seems to be fairly common in Scandinavia. I used to donate blood regularly, gallons, but had to stop when dr. prescribed coumadin. If you're really into donating you can try pheresis, which is done to extract red or white cells or plasma - and your blood is returned to you minus that element while you're donating. Coming back in at room temp it makes you a bit cold, but they will give you a blanket. The beauty of pheresis is that you can donate far more often than with whole blood, almost every day because your body will reconstruct what it's lost. I haven't been allowed to donate that way either in many years so maybe it's changed. Reply #82. Aug 28 12, 10:30 AM |

My blood bank called me today. I'm going in on Tuesday to donate platelets. It a real pain, because it takes hours, but they said they were in desperate need, so I guess I'll do it. It doesn't hurt at all, but you have to lie perfectly still, which is difficult for me. I always end up watching the clock and thinking, "Please let this be over soon!" Reply #84. You may be saving somebody's life that day, daver, so it's great that you take the time to donate! Years ago while I was in one of those emergency donation call-ups, my blanket got a little twisted, and I was not as cold as usual - of course, I couldn't see that the in and out tubes had gotten twisted and nobody knew till it backed up and blew up spraying blood all over. They used to call quite often, somewhere around Newington, CT. Reply #86. Aug 31 12, 6:33 PM |

My blood type is A From an online quiz; results are below... What`s Your Inner Blood Type? Your Inner Blood Type is Type AB Your personality is hard to define - you're very unconventional. And even if your personality could be defined, it would be completely different next week! Outgoing and shy, sensitive and thoughtless, you tend to have a very split personality. This makes you unpredictable. You can be a total angel - and a total devil. You are most compatible with: everyone! Reply #90. Apr 12 13, 7:40 PM |

No matter what your blood type, the Red Cross always needs blood. If you have never given, you should try it just once. It doesn't hurt, doesn't make you sick or dizzy, and isn't dangerous. Trust me on this. I have a low pain threshold and a plaque in the Cowardly Wimp Hall of Fame, and I've given something like 30 gallons. You will get free juice and cookies, and if you're lucky, a free t-shirt. A lot of us don't have a lot of money, but we can still help our fellow man by giving blood, plasma or platelets. Someday you may need blood; wouldn't you want it to come from a volunteer donor? Reply #93. Oct 19 13, 10:55 PM |

Me, too! Having undergone cancer treatment, including a bone marrow transplant and a number of blood transfusions, I believe I owe my life to blood donations. Thanks for raising awareness of this. BTW, my blood type is B+. Reply #95. Oct 29 13, 12:48 AM |

A+ In my county, there used to be a blood donation area set up for people called for jury duty and that's when I did it first. It was a perfect way to get donors. A large group of people forced to sit around and read the newspaper over and over and over for hours. But some twit complained, said it upset them to see the blood donation area, which was behind closed doors! And now that option is gone. It really takes nothing but a bit of time to donate blood. It's worse when a doctor wants blood for tests than to donate. Reply #99. Oct 29 13, 5:20 PM |
