Dire - The only hanging I know is loose, and I always keep on truckin', like the do-dah man....

You know the more I look at the Hardcore the more it comes into focus and the more you guys impress me. daBomb is, well, da Bomb, but when you look at it the rest of you just below him/her are fully his/her equivalent. I mean, you - jbspanos. BarabaraMcI, Seurat, krajack, trans, Dire - and the rest of that cohort in the top ten or fifteen are doing stunningly well. Particularly when you consider that most of you have played almost 100 games LESS than daBomb. daBomb is clearly motivated - he/she is not yet Immortal, but almost all of you are.

So you're not fooling me, newbie though I may be. If you guys actually played every set apples would have already dropped on your heads as well....

Jeez, and I am playing virtually every set and still just keeping my head above water.

Thanks for teaching me - once again - humility, guys (and gals...I'm not forgetting you, Barbara or demure....).

Last set was a decent one - hoping to get under 20 in the "30 not yet"......just keep truckin' o-o-o-o-o-onnnn........

Cheers,
Lizard

They probably did play every set (or close to); it's just that I don't think non-scoring (i.e. not 10+ in under 131 seconds) games count in the total at all. It probably makes the most noticeable impact in Impossible - I think he can actually meet the scoring criteria for that regularly, which even several good players can't because it's so obscure and tough.

That's correct malik. If you don't meet the scoring criterion for Hardcore of at least 10 correct from 15 questions in 130 seconds or less, the set does not count. In the last completed HC, I played every single game possible (i.e. played the same number of games as those in 'normal mode') even though it appears I 'missed' about 15% of them. That's why the performance of daBomb619 is so incredible. He has met the scoring requirement in all but a couple of sets - including the Impossible set - each 12 hours.

Malik and Mike - I stand corrected, for not the last time. I did not really get that aspect, but of course you are right. And daBomb is averaging 1400 - well, I said it before, but I will say it again - whew!!!

Thanks for putting me in there twice. :-p

And yes, I have played every set. I ususlly do in every GC, unless I'm sick or gone somewhere and can't make it back in time to play. It's just that I've had some games with non-qualifying scores. That 9/15 or 131 second submit time will have you pulling your hair out.

I think I might have a better shot at keeping up with daBomb if I changed my playing style...but I won't.

An interesting thing. I thought the advancement in each level was supposed to get more difficult. The most simplistic measure of this would be the number of sets taken to get from one level to the next. But I keep records of each set, advancement in percentage, etc. I am now in level 7, 62.7% of the way through. It has taken me 22 sets to get to that point, from graduation from level 6. But my records indicate that my progress through level 6 was virtually identical. From the time I graduated from level 5 it took me 22 sets to get to 62.6%. That is almost identical to my progress in level 7.

See what I mean? It strikes me as curious. My advancement in each set seems to be about the same in this level as in the previous. On my good sets without "Brain" I get 2.5 to 2.7. With "Brain" I get (on the good sets) 3.3. to 3.6. But it hasn't changed despite the higher level....

Any interpretations? I assume I am going to be, as the Aussies say, gobsmacked when I get to level 8....

Malik and Mike - I agree daBomb's performance is breathtaking. And the Impossible is, to me, the most impressive. He regularly gets 15 of 15, and 13 of 15 is an average set at best. Native intelligence is clearly one aspect, but there must be some technological component as well. These questions are just too obscure....

I say this partly because I am in a country where having the internet at all is a bonus. It is very hard for me to google answers, since the time taken for the connection negates any possible advantage in score. I regularly get 300 or 400 in Impossible, and that generally seriously hobbles my set score. No complaints, but i wonder what the world would be in an ideal technological environment...and I wonder of what that environment would consist?

I'm lucky if I can get 1 out of every 10 or even 20 of my "Impossible" games to count. And if I do, it's due to sheer random luck. Between the 10/15 requirement and the 130 second time limit, getting a large percentage of them to count is well...impossible.

Did you factor in your playing of the * and ** categories? You get more advancement from a * category than you do a non-starred one, and you get more advancement from a ** category than a * one. Assuming close to if not identical scores. I think I read somewhere in the forums that a score of 13/15 or 14/15 in a decent time in those ** categories will give you close to or maybe even slightly more advancement than a 15/15 in a non-starred one.

I am feeling the other end of Impossible pain. A week or so ago I realized I have no serious shot at immortal this round so I started pursuing the zero badgelet. (as well as seeing how I do in my off categories, hoping I find another surprise one I can add into the regularly usuable rotation) what makes dabomb's Impossible performances so impressive for me is how consistent they are (lizard I dont think an equipment type edge can do much there. Even with the fastest connection money can buy, your times would still be in the toilet if you tried to look up answers during play to even just a small handful of the questions). The fact that the questions are so ridiculously random that even trying to be wrong on purpose is a legitimate challenge, speaks volumes, and makes consistently competent (let alone masterful) performance amazing even if it is based somewhat in straight memorization from seeing the questions in past play.

Die and namrewsna (is it ok if I just say "answer.."?) - yeah, it is possible I am playing a bit more ** and *, but not that much more. Of course, the obvious answer (man) is that I just got smarter between level 6 & 7! And answerman, I agree on thinking about it. The technology cannot be the answer since everyone else has access (well, except those in the provinces). I see daBomb had a bad Impossible this last round - only 14 right. And I only managed to score just over 400! Eidetic memory may be the only possible answer....Oh, well, humility is not a bad thing, right?

Dire..not Die....sorry about that. I think it may be because "Die" is what I just did on Impossible....

Yeah..I didnt make this handle very nickname friendly did I? "answer" is fine by me.
I too had a "bad" impossible round today. Six right...truly pathetic. Sometimes I dont even get that many when I am trying for right answers.
There were about 5 questions where I was reasonably positive I knew the answer (and 4-8 is pretty typical for me) so that means I should have had about a 75% success rate on picking wrong answers for the other 10 (2-3) Even allowing for drift I should rarely see results higher than 4/15...but this is far from the first time I have managed a 6+ score in the ~35 times I have played in reverse mode. What is my problem? I can't even get messing up right!

Somebody told me that the possibilities were endless. Was I lied to? Duped? Has my whole life just been one big illusion?

I had a 1/15 in Impossible for today's second set. No more complaining about these so called "bad" rounds. lol

Not true, Dire. I would take the bullet for you - even a silver one, since it would do me less damage, I think, since I am not a Howlin' Wolf at full moon....

And answerman, I do not understand reverse mode? What is the zero badgelet? And I assume that the "6 right" was "truly pathetic" because you got TOO MANY right, right? Did I say that? Right.....

Too bad we can't exchange. Dire had 1/15 which he would, I am certain, have gladly transferred to you in exchange for 6/15....jeez, I would have taken the 6 of 15 and you would still have been ahead (I mean behind....ooooh, I am a bit confused here...).
