I'll tell you why I replayed it on the last run: it was to practice playing specific topics over and over so that when I made a Hardcore run, I would be really good in certain categories. I am now on that Hardcore run, and I think practicing on the last run helped my performance on this one. Others replay Global Challenge to try to get the All Rounder badgelets or the Impossible badge that they may not have won even though they made Immortal (I haven't won those). Still others work to maximize their GC rating number. Getting the Immortal badge is not the only badge there is in Global Challenge, nor is it the only reason to play it. There is even a "Hardcore Immortal" badge that very few players have won, but it sure looks like daBomb619 is on track to win it this run.

I've kept playing the GC even after I had all the bagdes(at the time...HC Immortal badge, I've got my eyes on you(@-@) ), just because I like the format of the game. A long term challenge covering all kinds subjects. Plus I enjoy seeing if I can improve where I finished at from the previous Global Challenge. Good luck to you in this and future GCs susandarn.

I continue to play because I enjoy the personal challenge of playing every game for 4+ months. In the last GC, another Immortal and I were going back and forth between each other for 2nd place (first being held by the indomitable jules44). The little 'rivalry' was fun for both of us.

All over the site, people continue to play games for which they've received all available awards...just because they enjoy the game :-)

I thought I knew what the rules were for Brainteasers, they were quite simple and straightforward: score 5/10 or more and you will get advancement points for the GC and 200 FT points as a bonus that has no effect on the GC. The only variation is that the effect on your progress depends on the size of the level and the advancement percentage decreases as you go up because the levels get bigger. The number of advancement points won't change, just the effect on your progress through the levels.

Then MiraJane said, and has since said again, that if you score more than 5/10 you will get additional advancement points. DireWolf and I didn't agree but she claimed to have that information from the oracle, WesleyCrusher. Now Wes does know what he's talking about but I've never seen him say the Brainteaser counts extra if you score more so I decided to test the theory.

I did the Brainteaser yesterday and checked my GC progress before and after. As I understand HTML code I didn't rely on the rounded figures displayed for my GC progress but checked the baseline figures (i.e. I looked at the more precise source code). I started yesterday having done 47.625% of level 4. After a perfect 10/10 score in the Brainteaser I had advanced by 3.125% and was at 50.75%. I didn't play anything else in the GC yesterday so my starting point today was the same 50.75%. I did the Brainteaser and carefully managed to only get 6/10 correct. If MiraJane's theory was correct I would get less than 3.125% in advancement, if I was correct I would get the same again. I checked my progress. I am now 53.875% along, 3.125% advancement over yesterday, exactly the same as when I got 10/10.

I rest my case. And am somewhat relieved that I'm not going mad after all, lol. If anyone needs me I'll be over there polishing my Hardcore Immortal badge - and making sure it's firmly fixed to my profile, I don't need some pesky wolf stealing it. ;)

You play Hardcore, flopsymopsy? I will use it only if I reach level 10 in Normal Mode (Which I hope to do one day).

The oracle posted the BT info on the team message board. I repeated info from some I trust. Because you a re a different animal than a feline, you wouldn't find his words in the forums or on the chat boards.

I it didn't work for you, it didn't.

Errr...Flopsy, just because you were correct, doesn't mean that you're *not* going mad :-D

You come near my Hardcore Immortal badge, Mr Wolf, and I shall play hard core until you yelp for mercy! ;)

I do hope you get it this time, it's one of my favourite badges. I got to Immortal in Hardcore in 2011 so getting a badge retrospectively added to its charm.

Can't I just drop by your profile and look at it? I promise I won't get drool all over the place.

Just started Div. 7 this morning. After playing my 6 categories, I had 1.5% advancement. Played Brain Twist with a 10/10. This put me at 2.3% advancement in the Division. My trusty abacus tells me that this means I got 0.8% advancement from the Brain Twist. The 200 point bonus doesn't count for Div. advancement so toss it out the window(Oops! Forgot to open the window...points scattered all over the floor). Tomorrow I'll try to get just 6/10 and see if I get the same results. I know you only need 5/10 but I'm not taking any chances while badge hunting.

Maybe MiraJane can copy & paste Wesley's exact words about the Brain Twist and post them here so we can all read them. Unless they are super secret team stuff.

Okay, as long as you promise to lick up after yourself. :)

You may find that looking at the simple stats on your progress bar/stats page is not exact as the figures shown there are rounded up/down. But they're near enough, giver or take half a percent. Wait till you get to level 10 - the darn stats never seem to change as that level is as large as all the other levels put together. Of course it's only worth playing at that level if a) other players are also up there and b) you want to keep your place in the rankings for the sake of posterity

Okay, I promise to clean all drool and paw prints before I leave.

I know the figures are rounded up. Really I'm just going by my knowledge from playing every GC since I joined FunTrivia five years ago and seeing that the advancement from Brain Twist is the same each time. But only within whatever division that you're in at the time. But I've been sure of something before only to find out that I was wrong...so who knows. It's not really important to me either way and we should probably just drop it and go play some interesting quizzes instead.

Do I really have to use my tongue? Talk about humiliating. Don't you have a bunny sized mop that I could borrow? Or some handy wipes that I can wrap around my paws?

Why do you think mopsy is called, well, mopsy? She's detachable and really quite useful instead of a sponge. :)

I was going on my knowledge and experience too but you know what it's like when someone queries something you've always known as a fact - suddenly you wonder if you imagined it or if the sky is really blue, you just have to check again. And I'm neither obsessive nor compulsive!

Me neither!

Susandarn - I saw your earlier query concerning how you figure you current position (particularly with respect to how you stand as one of the 30 "not yet Immortals") and am not sure that was answered. I struggled with the same thing as I have not made Immortal and am trying my (Susan)darndest (!) to do so this time around.

It depends on where you are in the standings. If you are in the top 100 in either Normal or Hardcore, then you can do it as follows. First, click on Global Stats. Then, if you are playing Normal Mode, click on Top 100 Normal. See what your ranking is. In this ranking it tells you who is already Immortal and who is not, so it is a simple thing to simply count the number of people ahead of you who are not yet Immortal. So that (plus 1) gives your position in the "Normals".

But the next step is important. You have to go to the Top 100 Hardcore. There it does NOT tell you who is Immortal already, it only tells you who is a Hardcore Champ. They may or may not be Immortal. So you have to click on the profile for each of the players to see in their profile what is the Highest Level Achieved in Global Challenge (not the exact phrasing, but it is at the end of the profile, after the Major Badges).

What I did was simply list the (few) of the Hardcore Players who are not yet Immortal. Those are the ones you are concerned with, because if they are ahead of you in the overall rankings then they count as one of “the 30”.

The simplest way to see who is ahead of you in the Hardcore list is to click on Division Stats and then Top in Division. Once you know who are the Hardcore players you can check in the Top in Division to see who the nearest Hardcore Player is AHEAD of you. Then back to Top 100 Hardcore and see where that person is listed. If that person is, say, 20 in the Hardcore rankings, then there are 20 Hardcore above you in the Overall Rankings. You then just have to see how many of the 20 above you are NOT YET Immortal (by checking their profiles). Add those to the number of players above you in the Top 100 Normal who are not yet Immortal and you will have your overall ranking of the “not yet Immortals ….hopefully in the top 30….

It gets a bit trickier when everyone is transitioning between Divisions, but it can still be done. You can spy on another Division to see how many players are there. Or you can go to the Top 100 Hardcore and Top 100 Normal and they give you the full list, irrespective of Division, so you can still do the math.

I know that sounds complicated, but it gives you a very accurate picture of where you are. The only problem is that each of those lists seems to update at slightly different times, but that does not make too much difference. I have found the best times to do it are right after the Challenge resets – either at midnight or noon (CST). If you get in within two or three minutes everything is updated and seems to be very internally consistent and no one has yet played a full set to upset the rankings…..

Hope that is useful, and much thanks to Salami Swami and Buddy 1 who originally helped me to sort these things out…

I'm going to post the results of my little test and then I'm done with this. If you read my last post, you'll remember that my 10/10 in Brain Twist yesterday gave me 0.8% advancement in Division 7 of the Global Challenge. I started out today at 5.0% advancement. Played Brain Twist first to keep the math nice and easy. Scored 8/10 to see if my advancement would be any less. Nope, it was 0.8%. So I'm at 5.8% advancement right now. Unless the difference in advancement occurs way out at 4 or 5 decimal places, I don't see any difference in scoring 5/10 or 10/10.

If you scored 8/10, how can you compare that to 5/10?
