Kudos to the powers that be for coming up with another enjoyable game that makes F.T an even more attractive place to "hang".

1000 is possible if you get a topic you really know a lot about it and the options are all either A or B plus a fast net and PC.

At least 2 people on my team have scored 1000 but it is very rare.

It wasn't just "Hockey" or even the "NHL," it was
"Montreal Canadiens." I love hockey, but all those jersey numbers over the years from one particular Canadian team had my head spinning, too. I'll never remember any of them for next time, either!

I won the hockey Duel, but only because I was late today. My sole Bot match was hockey, so thank you, Bot.

I have hit 999 before once and 997-998 several times. I maintain I will hit 1000 someday but it requires play on a computer and I am usually mobile bound so I don't get to swipe at it every day.

And yes getting 1000 does require a lot of things falling in your favor. Not only just a favorable topic for you where you have good odds of knowing all 10 answers, but you absolutely have to know the right answer to each question before they start rolling out. There is no time to think, it just breaks down to the mechanics of finding the correct word(s) and hitting selecting the answer quickly!

This can sink you even on a question you know the answer to. For instance if the answer involves two countries and you have it in your head that it is Belgium and Austria....and for speed you lock in on reading the first country only and you look for that capital B...when it rolls out instead as "Austria and Belgium"...that split second of hesitation puts you down to at best a 99 for that question.

Likewise, if you get a question with sentence answers or sentence fragment answers ...you are likely sunk right away unless it happens to be answer #1 or unless you have seen the question before and can zero in on a keyword in the answer.

I disagree though that it has to be answer 1 or 2 to get the full 100. If you start out assuming it is answer 4 and rest so as to be able to click on a 4 immediately. With practice it allows you to either:

A)click on 4 as it is appearing, having eliminated the other 3 already you know it is the one and dont have to wait to see it.

or

B) backtrack to 1-3 if they are it...though I admit that makes the timing very tough if it is answer #3.

I've hit 1000 several times, but not lately. It is mostly luck. You have to have a topic that you are really good at, and not have any of the right answers appear in the fourth position.

I too have hit a 1000 score a number of times with it being some time since I've done that. It is rare for me to be able to hit a correct D answer without the clock ticking down one (although it is possible and I would have to assume that those who hit 1000 with some regularity either have faster computers or much faster reflexes than I do).
On infrequent occasions all the correct answers will be A, B, or C and with question repetition 1000 is very doable then.

I agree with daver, I have yet to hit 1000, yet I have hit 999, but that perfect storm of correct answers in the first three spots has not yet happened.

mira, I am regularly defeated by that famous player from nyc, with 1000 being his/her favorite number.

I think if you took 100 Canadian men over fifty, 60 of them would know Guy Lafleur's jersey number. Ninety five of them would know Wayne Gretzky's. Legendary players who played for one team the majority of their careers, well, people remember that stuff. After all, it's how you identify who's who while you're watching the game. By Canadian terms I'm not a hockey fan, barely pay attention to the game, and even so, I've seen 99 score a goal more times than I can count. Same with number 10 in a Habs jersey.

And 21 in an Avalanche Jersey when Peter Forsberg was still playing, and the Avs were still winning. I miss my Little Swedish Pancake.

So, about those times...

If something comes up, like a cat dancing across my keyboard, does it matter if I pause in between questions? I try to click, and then advance to the next question as fast as I can, but does the clock stop, or continue counting down, if I don't go immediately to the next question?

And now that I've asked this, I'm pretty sure it rolls out the next question automatically. I think I'm thinking of just playing Topic Mashes, so probably never mind. Unless any of that made sense.

Only one 1000 in almost 7,000 wins. Can you imagine someone scoring 1,000 and having a tie?

Blackdress, I'm pretty sure the clock stops in Duel until you click on the next question. For one thing, there would be no point in giving all that information after each answer otherwise, and I'm pretty sure I once answered the door between questions will no detrimental effect to my score and points.

Clock does not move until answets appear..you have a decent amount f time to read the question without a clock running but yes...eventually it does automatically advance to the answer screen on its own.

The autoadvance timer seems to be scaled based on the length of the question...I thought that was a nice touch, so you have more than five seconds to read those Gettysburg address length questions.

You dont have to wait for the clock though if you have read fast, you can click or tap to advance to the answers. Be careful doing that late in the unseen "read the question" timer though..and try to click/tap away from where the answers appear. Particularly on a small screen mobile, it is easy to inadvertently select an answer that way while it is transitioning.

Erg..stray hit of "post reply" sorry

I was saying I dont think it advances from question to question on its own so worst case if interupted you should only lose one question if you are already into one

It doesn't advance to a new question without a click. Yesterday morning I got half way through a duel before being distracted and came back to it about an hour later and finished it off for a win!

On another matter, do I hold some sort of record for having posts erased? Haha!

I don't know how I came up with this, but for now, I have the goal of winning 4 duels each day and am happy when I surpass that. In the beginning, I didn't play categories that I was unfamiliar with but then decided to give them a try since there's no penalty for losing, and I often learn a lot, which is fun. And sometimes I actually win in those categories.

It's tough for me to even score 990. I'd rather be accurate than fast. Sometimes, when trying to go too fast, I've clicked on the wrong answer by mistake.

My fastest time yesterday was 985 in one of my best categories, but I was beaten by three points. Ah well. It's all enjoyable. :-)

Ok flopsy no pressure but, if you arent sporting a gold medal for today's topic, you better at least be on the podium ;)

or I suppose you could do like I did...miss a few, on purpose of course, to excuse yourself from the top 50...you know..to make everyone else feel better :p
