I find that to be the case with most obscure-ish topics-of-the-day. I wonder why that is?? Reply #3163. Sep 23 17, 2:32 PM |

Are these "guests" possibly people who already have an account or two on this site? Methinks quite possibly YES. Reply #3166. Sep 23 17, 10:30 PM |

If you take a look at the scores, those guest plays do not hint at cheating. For example, take the Rabbits category, http://www.funtrivia.com/html5/scores.cfm?poolid=5355 32 guest plays in the top 200, 7 of those are in the top 11. All of the 21 guest plays in the top 100 (and four below that) were between 2:51 am and 4:24 am and their scores improved over time. So, likely, they were indeed all one person. What's missing from the list however is a top-ranking score that would actually benefit from this cramming session. The closest we have is 6:03 am and 6:23 am. Neither of them got 10 right (it was an 8 and a 6). The Rabbits category has only 16 quizzes. It would be much easier (and completely legit!) for a cramming session to play these 16 quizzes, all on your real account, scoring the points in the process and seeing each question once. Bottom line - this was a real guest who wanted to play our rabbit questions and just didn't actually find the category (and if you've been to other quiz sites, that's not too outrageous: quite a lot of them only offer these random quizzes and the only way to see all questions is to play dozens of times). Thanks, Wesley, I have often wondered how all of those guests knew to come on a topic they knew well! And congrats, Daver, you the man! Reply #3172. Sep 24 17, 6:47 AM |

I appreciate Wesley's analysis of guest scores. More information is preferable to less. Conspiracy theories breed in darkness. Sunlight is the best disinfectant. Thanks, Wesley. Reply #3174. Sep 24 17, 12:12 PM |

Answerman said: "Ok flopsy no pressure but, if you arent sporting a gold medal for today's topic, you better at least be on the podium ;)" Ha! I don't know anything about rabbits, real or otherwise - but I knew enough! And when I looked, I was in the top 30, which is rare even for the things I do know about. ;) Reply #3175. Methinks YES, as well, in response to "guests" doing well on obscure topics. Reply #3176. Sep 24 17, 10:00 PM |

So wait... a Guest who doesn't actually have an account here can not only compete against me in Duels, but could also win? I've never even seen that. But I really dislike the idea. I don't understand the point of being a "Guest," but shouldn't they be confined to just quizzes, and not actual competitions? Just my opinion, but yow, I'd rather be beaten by a Bot than a Guest. Guests can't play Duels, but they can play the topic of the day, which is highlighted on the front page. Their score doesn't count, though and you can't lose to a guest. To play Duels, you have to register and be logged in. Reply #3178. Sep 25 17, 4:24 AM |

No They seem to be excluded from the duel matching program and only play them as topic mashes...er mixed quizzes. (have I mentioned yet how annoying that name change is? Not only is there the confusion with real mixed quizzes...not to mention the pride gut punch when we get cslled old and inflexibke for habitually clinging to the old terminology, but think of the poor master masher badge and its identity crisis as newbies ask "what's a topic mash?!?" ;) Reply #3179.
