England crushed to Panama. Panama it's a very limited team and I don't know how they beat USA in the classification. Kane score goals yet without try as the third today. They score the first goal and now try to win a point vs Tunez Reply #325. Jun 24 18, 8:59 AM |

Yes, the last England goal was very funny because Kane scored without knowing anything about it. The ball hit the back of his heel and deflected into the goal. Reply #326. Jun 24 18, 9:23 AM |

Goal! Colombia! Colombia! Colombia! Yerri Mina score and I see again the good playing of Colombia. James and quintero put a great ball to the tall defenser Yerri. I loved the score for a player without support and few games in Barcelona team. The injury of Aguilar it's so bad, he and cuadrado are the best today in the first half. Reply #327. Incredible! Columbia has fans stunned...their own and Poland's. The scoreboard displaying flags is appreciated. It's nice to associate the team with their country flag as well as the interesting ways fans show their support. First time watching. Reply #329. Jun 24 18, 1:43 PM |

Hello everybody! I've had a very busy weekend and have gotten some rest after getting up early every single day to watch the World Cup. In the interest of time and not making this post ridiculously long, I'll catch up by adding a review of the last three day's matches all at one, and skip the refs for now. I'll substitute that with a thought about VAR, which has already been discussed here. Thank you for keeping the discussion going in my absence! My apologies to everyone. The Games June 22 (Brazil 2-0 Costa Rica, Nigeria 2-0 Iceland, Serbia 1-2 Switzerland) This was a very interesting match day. Costa Rica actually fought very hard but failed to score just like last time, which sealed their fate and eliminated them from the World Cup. Keylor Navas did save CR many times, but Brazil wasn't exactly on target in offense. Two last minute goals gave Brazil the victory, and gave us the image of Neymar crying on the pitch at the end of the game. Bjorn Kuipers is for me a strong candidate for the final. He called a penalty on Neymar which was later correctly disallowed by VAR, though he should've booked him. Nigeria was strong and gave a good impression to a dignified Iceland, while Serbia and Switzerland both gave a great match with controversial celebrations and all. Nigeria's win gave Argentina hope, but now the latter must beat the former to have any chance of going through. June 23 (Belgium 5-2 Tunisia, South Korea 1-2 Mexico, Germany 2-1 Sweden) Many goals in this match day, which is great! Tunisia gave a fair effort, but was no match to what the powerful Belgium has to offer. Belgium could make it very far. I am, as you know, extremely happy with Mexico's perfect standings, though a lot of things can happen, including elimination! What a crazy group. I did not like the Korean goal towards the end, because it always happens to Mexico. They surprise everyone with a stunning effort, and the the last 15 minutes they start losing focus and making silly mistakes. This same thing happened to Sweden, giving the Germans a free kick at the very last minute that would make competition in this group even more intense. I look forward to Wednesday when these squads will determine their future in the contest. Certainly two matches to watch. June 24 (England 6-1 Panama, Japan 2-2 Senegal, Poland 0-3 Colombia) In another goal-filled match day, we saw two teams be eliminated: Panama and Poland. Panama did not come here expecting much, and the squad is clearly a mess, but it was still heartwarming to see the fans celebrate their first-ever World Cup goal. Someone mentioned in the threads that they can't understand how Panama went through and the US didn't. It's important to remember that the US didn't beat Trinidad and Tobago, which is worse than Panama! Ahhh, nostalgia taking me back to CONCACAF qualifiers. Anyway, a strong show by England, but the real test will be against Belgium. Colombia returned to the level we all expected to see from them, and Poland was very disappointing, though I also think they are somewhat overrated. VAR Generally, I stand by my opinion that VAR is good. It is a great tool for referees and it makes the game more fair. We have seen it time and again in the World Cup, when referees miss penalties and VAR awards them, making it fair. We have seen it with mistaken cards given out and even Neymar's reversed penalty decision, which the ref had already called despite being a blatant simulation. Now, should Neymar have been booked? Absolutely. However, without VAR, the ref had already called the non-existent penalty. The Brazilian star will be one of the players who will most suffer with VAR, a great tool. With that said, it is clear that, as you said, it is in its "infancy." The rules are not exactly clear and no one knows when it will kick in or not. Since the ref has the authority to use or not use what VAR says, it is complicated because they should not lose authority on the pitch, but there should be someone else to be able to call them out on clear mistakes. I find the offside rule to constantly stop matches, this being annoying. How crazy would it sound to call no offsides (it is almost impossible for a human being, the linesmen, to see a player kick the ball and see if the other is in an offside position), but have every goal checked by VAR? If it is an offside, then no goal. Otherwise, carry on. It is confusing and I understand why some (including me, to an extent) are skeptic. I do think that VAR is here and should be here to stay. The tool will make football more fair, I insist. Think about goal-line technology, and how it has helped make the refs job easier. Now, I wonder if VAR makes it easier or actually puts more pressure on the ref? Lpaz. If there was no offside rule, what you would see is attackers crowding the opposition's goal mouth and defenders also crowding it. There would be unedifying scuffles in the goalmouth with the goalkeeper having no room to move. Reply #335. Jun 25 18, 3:30 AM |

Also, the stoppages in the game do give players a chance to get their breath back. It's hard to run for 45 minutes straight, twice over. Reply #337. Jun 25 18, 3:32 AM |
