How many times have we seen games won or lost in the dying minutes? Got to feel for Nigeria though, 3 minutes from qualifying......and refused a VAR penalty call as well.......credit to Argentina though. The happiest bloke seemed to be the Argentinian Manager/Coach.....probably because he hasn't yet got to look for another job. Reply #371. Jun 26 18, 2:03 PM |

Lpez. Are you aware that you've been calling Iceland 'Island'? They are also an Island of course :-) Reply #372. Jun 26 18, 2:52 PM |

He will need to look for that job after the finals I think! VAR correctly ruled out the penalty shout near the end too in my opinion, ball to hand and not deliberate. That Messi goal was brilliant much like Quaresma's last night was but then they continued to struggle through the rest of the game as Portugal did too! Reply #373. Jun 26 18, 3:00 PM |

Columbia vs Colombia AND island vs Iceland....ok i liked to see a better Argentina, the changes pay off today. Armani save a clear goal with the feet, Rojo score the final goal. +Messi score the 100th goal in this World Cup. +It's the sixth personal goal by Messi in the World Cup + The last goal was against Nigeria in the group phase in WC 2014. It's the third goal vs Nigeria +Messi need 660 minutes to score again in a World Cup +Argentina has a 30-1-0 record in games what won in the first half. And won 27 straight. The last loss was in the World Cup final in 1930. Argentina won the first half 2-1 and lost 2-4 vs Uruguay. + Argentina matched five times with Nigeria in the group phase. And Argentina won all five games by one goal. Reply #374. Jun 26 18, 4:10 PM |

I agree it's not penalty he don't use the hand to cut an opportunity of goal, he can't play with the hand. Reply #375. Jun 26 18, 4:12 PM |

Oops, Mix! That was not intentional!! I guess I got confused because their training coats do say "Island". I agree, that wasn't a penalty and it shouldn't even had gone to VAR. As for Sampaoli, I am 99% sure he will be out of a job as soon as the World Cup ends, either by own choice or because of firing. Public scrutiny over him has been intense and I don't think either of the parts wants to continue this relationship. There's a lot being said about a complete re-building of Argentina, who got lucky today. Reply #376. Jun 26 18, 4:37 PM |

Adios Australia! Bit of an anticlimax really, especially since the France v Denmark result meant the Aussies wouldn't have progressed even if they had triumphed over Peru. By the end of this tournament, VAR will be the most commonly used word in the history of language. Hey Lpez, I had to check the fixtures page to make sure Ireland weren't playing. Did you see Maradona in the crowd? Doesn't look too healthy. Reply #377. Jun 26 18, 7:32 PM |

Maradona, what a palaver. I happened to catch some more videos of him that this game on youtube. At various times he was: sleeping; manically animated; swearing and making rude gestures; being helped out of the stadium, hardly able to walk. It seems to me like he had taken some sort of substance. He was a great footballer ('hand of god' game excepted) but he's not a great man so will never get the respect in retirement of a Pele.
