Alaska has over 3 million lakes out of which only 3,197 are named.
The three largest by area are: Iliamna, 1,150 square miles (2,978 km2), Becharof, 458 square miles (1,150 km2) and Teshekpuk. 315 square miles (816 km2).
Wisconsin has more than 15,000 lakes and has shores on two of the five great lakes, Superior and Michigan. Naturally these two are the largest lakes in the state, followed by Winnebago, Pepin and Petenwell.
Even though Minnesota's nickname is the "Land of 10,000 Lakes", the state has more than 15,000 lakes. The largest lakes are Red Lake (both Upper and Lower), Mille Lacs and Leech.
Michigan has over 11,000 lakes, but has more freshwater shoreline than any other state in the US.
