Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Guy Pearce starred in this movie that started at the end and played with your mind.

Answer: Memento

Guy's character, Leonard Shelby, suffers from short-term memory loss, and must write himself notes to be able to remember anything as he searches for his wife's killer.
2. This movie is an adventure that focuses on vengeance and true love, starring Robin Wright-Penn in the title role.

Answer: The Princess Bride

Vengeance: "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

True Love: "Death cannot stop true love - all it can do is delay it for a little while."
3. The tagline for this movie was "Fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free."

Answer: The Shawshank Redemption

Tim Robbins is intense in this incredible movie. Morgan Freeman's narration (and acting) set the mood, and the musical score and cinematography make it a pleasure to watch. In my humble opinion, "The Shawshank Redemption" should have won Best Picture over "Forrest Gump".
4. After watching this movie, it makes you wonder about the true nature of our reality. Are we really merely batteries powering a world, run by machines?

Answer: The Matrix

This action-packed movie was a breakthrough in computer animation. The effects were stupendous, and have been copied by many other movies since then. When "The Matrix" came out, it raised the bar for every special effects movie to come.
5. Four boys set out on a journey to find a dead body.

Answer: Stand by Me

Excellent soundtrack. Very good acting for such young actors. A great study on friendship. Hilarious seeing a porky young Jerry O'Connell.
6. This movie adaptation of a comic book hero comes with the admonition; "With great power comes great responsibility."

Answer: Spider-Man

Tobey Maguire was a great choice for the role. His physique was just what you'd expect of Spider-Man and as Peter Parker. He just doesn't look the part of a superhero - which is just right. Willem Dafoe was also well cast - he almost didn't need the Goblin mask to be the Goblin!
7. Almost the entire movie takes place in a small, hot room as a jury discusses the fate of a young man charged with murder.

Answer: Twelve Angry Men

Henry Fonda performs commandingly in his role as Juror No. 8, as the movie begins with him being the only one to vote "not guilty" in a seemingly open-and-shut case.
8. This hilarious comedy featured a fight scene between the main character and Bob Barker.

Answer: Happy Gilmore

Isn't it great when Bob Barker beats Happy up? I also like this movie for the fact that they film a scene in the Minnesota Moose Arena. (Which is now the Manitoba Moose - my home team!)
9. Of all of the movie adaptations done on Tom Clancy's books, the one about the submarine is closest to the novel.

Answer: The Hunt for Red October

"The Hunt for Red October" was Tom Clancy's first novel. It was also the first of a long line of excellent novels featuring the character of Jack Ryan. Other movies that have been made from the Jack Ryan world are, "Patriot Games", "Clear and Present Danger", and "The Sum of All Fears".
10. This animated comedy was the first feature-length computer-animated film.

Answer: Toy Story

Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are a great combination on this creation of Pixar Animation Studios. Follow-ups by Pixar include "Toy Story 2", "Monsters, Inc.", "A Bug's Life", and "Finding Nemo".
