As I had learned previously in school, it was pronounced Margo. To support this, I researched Dame Margot Asquith, who was of Scottish and English descent. Even though Anne Frank was born in Germany, there must surely be a correlation between the pronunciations (as the name itself originated in France).
That's true, bloomsby, though many languages have adopted names from foreign tongues, and sometimes the foreign pronunciations are retained.
That said, it's worth pointing out that the correct German pronunciation of "Anne" is "AH-na," not "Ann" as we say it in English. In fact, I believe that Anne's full first name was "Anneliese," which would have been pronounced with four syllables.
