Going back just a bit further -- 1894: Milton Hershey adds a line of chocolate to his caramel manufacturing business. Soon he invents the Hershey Bar by experimenting with milk chocolate. Hershey's Cocoa soon arrived.

The calorie counters of the world are saying that the first bar weighed .6 ounces -- Though, I can't find a sound link.

Per Hershey's: In 1900, Milton S. Hershey developed the recipe for what would become a great American classic -- HERSHEY’S milk chocolate bar.

I received an e-mail from Hershey and they said it was 9/16 ounce and cost 2 cents. Hats off to star_gazer!

With all due respect to star_gazer and the Hershey Company -- As I stated above -- In 1900, Hershey introduced the original HERSHEY’S milk chocolate bar. Star_gazer's "Hershey Bar Index" was provided by Hershey and begins at 1908 which is a full 8 years after the bar was first released. I contend that we have eight years of missing information which may well end up being 9/16 oz. and 2 cents, however, in the absence of that information, I remain unconvinced.

Well, who's going to have a more definitive answer than the Hershey Company? Qp will have to surrender her place as "Most Difficult to Convince."
