In this episode, called "Dice", Jess found the app on Schmidt's phone. Though he gave her several looks to indicate she should not join, she created an account anyway. Her first "date" was a disaster, so he helped her with some rules and exit lines. One of the things he told her was that dating was only to pursue the act of dating forever. She said dating was to fall in love, but he said it wasn't, not for him.

Jess is a teacher, Nick is a bartender, Schmidt works for a marketing firm, and Winston is unemployed and then gets a radio DJ gig. Cece is the closest to working in the entertainment industry since she is a model.
Staying true to the Los Angeles stereotype, none of the main characters are originally from LA. Jess and Cece are from Portland, and Nick and Winston are from Chicago. It hasn't been specifically stated where Schmidt is from but it can be assumed the mid-west area since he went to college with Nick and we saw him move to Los Angeles with his friend Benjamin.

Jeff Kober played all of the characters listed at some point in his career. He was Joe on "The Walking Dead", Randall on "Supernatural", and Jacob on "Sons of Anarchy". He also guest starred on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "CSI".

Lamorne Morris plays Winston, but he is not in the original aired pilot episode. The first character was named Coach and he was played by Damon Wayans. Wayans was cast after the audition rounds and played Coach, a testosterone-driven athlete, in the pilot episode. However, Wayans could not stay on the show since he was under contract with "Happy Endings" which got a surprise renewal. Instead of re-casting the role, "New Girl" created the new character of Winston and cast one of the second choices from the Coach auditions.
