Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What does the "O" stand for in "Rally-O"?

Answer: obedience

Rally-O is a new way to compete in obedience. Most tasks and exercises are similar to those found in formal CKC or AKC obedience.
2. When you and your dog approach a station and you see a bright red stop sign with the word "Halt", what do you do?

Answer: stop and sit your dog

The red "Halt" sign means you have approached a stationary exercise. Your dog is required to sit in heel position before you perform the required exercise.
3. There are various "call front" signs. If the sign says "call front finish right", what do you do?

Answer: call your dog to sit facing you then direct the dog to sit in heel position by circling behind you from right to left

The four "call front" signs are "call front finish left", "call front forward left", "call front finish right", and "call front forward right". "Forward" means that the dog does not sit once they are in heel position, while "finish" means that the dog is required to sit before you give the command to heel.
4. For the change in pace signs, "slow pace" and "fast pace", what must the judge see happen?

Answer: both dog and handler make a noticeable change in pace

Both the dog and the handler must make a noticeable change in pace. The handler is not required to give a command to slow down or speed up, but if they do, no points are deducted.
5. You and your dog approach a sign that says "HALT - 1, 2, 3 steps forward". What do you do?

Answer: stop and sit your dog, then take 1, 2 and 3 steps forward, sitting your dog each time you come to a stop

When you see this sign, you must sit your dog then take one step forward. The dog must follow you as you move, and then sit when you stop. Next you take two steps forward with your dog, and sit your dog. Finally, you take three steps forward wit your dog, and sit your dog again before moving onto the next station.
6. You are allowed to speak to your dog while in the ring.

Answer: True

Yes, you are allowed to speak to your dog while in the ring to encourage your dog and keep its attention.
7. At which station do you and your dog walk around a set of three pylons in a clockwise direction?

Answer: spiral right

Both spiral stations require you and your dog to walk around 3 pylons in an increasingly smaller circle.
8. When giving your dog a command, which method(s) is allowed?

Answer: verbal and/or hand signal at the same time

Both hand signals and verbal commands are allowed, but if you choose to use both, they must be given at the same time so as not to be judged as a double command.
9. You are headed north when you approach a "270 degree left" sign. Which direction will you be going when you are finished the exercise?

Answer: east

These signs can be tricky to follow. Sometimes it is easier to just look at the arrows on the signs instead of trying to figure out what the words are telling you.
10. What is the first title your dog can earn in Rally-O?

Answer: RN

RN is the first title you can earn in both CARO and AKC Rally-O. RN stands for Rally Novice, and to earn it, you need to get qualifying scores in three legs under at least two different judges. RA is the next title you can earn. It stands for Rally Advanced. RE is third, and it stands for Rally Excellent. V is a title from CARO and is the fourth title you can earn.

It stands for Versatility.
