The public best remembers her for her role as Gloria on "All in the Family" (1971), and she is the only one of the four cast members of "All in the Family" who did not hail from New York City. She also turned down an offer of one million dollars to pose nude for Playboy magazine in the early 1970s.

- Doc Severinsen (Arlington) is an American retired jazz trumpeter who led the NBC Orchestra on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson". He was a late addition to the big band scene with the orchestras of Benny Goodman, Charlie Barnet, Tommy Dorsey, and Sam Donahue. He hit #106 on the "Billboard Singles Charts" in 1970 with "Last Tango in Paris".

- Steve Prefontaine (Coos Bay) was an American long-distance runner who, from 1973 to 1975, set American records at every distance from 2,000 to 10,000 meters. He was the first athlete to sign with the Nike company for $5,000 in 1974. He made it to the cover of Sports Illustrated when he was just 19 years of age. He was in his freshman year and had so far only lost three races in his collegiate career.

Matt Groening (Portland) is an American cartoonist, writer, producer, and animator best known as the creator of the television series "The Simpsons" and "Futurama". He gave the Simpsons characters yellow skin to attract and deter channel surfers. His parents were Homer and Margaret, and his sisters were Lisa and Maggie.

- James Beard (Portland) was an American chef, cookbook author, teacher and television personality. In 1946, Beard starred in the live NBC television cooking show "I Love to Eat", marking the start of his rise as the premier authority on American food and food culture. Dubbed "The Dean of American Cookery" by "The New York Times", James Beard was the premier gastronomer in the United States, and his name is synonymous with quality American cooking.

- Dave Kingman (Pendleton), nicknamed "King Kong", is an American former Major League Baseball left fielder, first baseman, third baseman, and designated hitter who was a three-time MLB All-Star with 442 career home runs and 1,210 runs batted in (RBI) in 16 seasons. According to his 1974 Topps card and an "LA Times" article, Kingman hit 4 HR and threw a 2-hitter in his final HS game.

- Linus Pauling (Portland) was an American chemist, biochemist, chemical engineer, peace activist, author, and educator. Pauling was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1954 for his scientific work. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1962 for his peace activism. He is the first person to receive two unshared Nobel Prizes.

- Jane Powell (Portland) was an American actress, singer, and dancer who appeared in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer musicals in the 1940s and 50s. She sang at the Inaugural Ball for President Harry S. Truman on January 20, 1949, and was bridesmaid for Elizabeth Taylor at her first marriage. Taylor was a bridesmaid at Powell's first marriage.

- Tonya Harding (Portland) is a former American figure skater, boxer, and reality television personality. She was the first American woman to land a triple axel in competition, a feat she achieved at the 1991 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, where she also won the gold medal.

- Pinto Colvig (Jacksonville) was an American voice actor, cartoonist, and circus and vaudeville performer whose schtick was playing the clarinet off-key while mugging faces. Colvig was the original performer of the Disney characters Goofy and Pluto, as well as Bluto in "Popeye" and "Bozo the Clown".

- Howard Hesseman (Lebanon) was an American actor known for his television roles, including the lead role of history teacher Charlie Moore on "Head of the Class" and burned-out disc jockey Dr. Johnny Fever on "WKRP in Cincinnati". He was a close friend and sometime lover of Janis Joplin in the late 1960s.

- Margaux Hemingway (Portland) was an American fashion model, actress, and writer Ernest Hemingway's granddaughter. She gained independent fame as a supermodel in the 1970s, appearing on the covers of magazines including "Cosmopolitan", "Elle", "Harper's Bazaar", "Vogue", and "Time". On her alleged suicide, her sister Mariel said, "My sister was somewhat a drama queen. If she had committed suicide, she would have left a note, a long note naming everyone who had ever wronged her.".

- Beverly Cleary (McMinnville) was an American writer of children's and young adult fiction. Some of her best-known characters are Ramona Quimby and Beezus Quimby, Henry Huggins, and his dog Ribsy. Cleary won the 1981 National Book Award for "Ramona and Her Mother" and the 1984 Newbery Medal for "Dear Mr. Henshaw".

- River Phoenix (Madras) was an American actor. He was known as a teen actor before taking on leading roles in critically acclaimed films. He received the Volpi Cup and the Independent Spirit Award and nominations for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award. He died at age 23 from combined drug intoxication in West Hollywood in the early hours of Halloween 1993, having overdosed on cocaine and heroin at "The Viper Room".

- Katee Sackhoff (Portland) is an American actress known for being Lieutenant Kara "Starbuck" Thrace on "Battlestar Galactica", Niko Breckenridge on "Another Life", Victoria "Vic" Moretti on "Longmire" and Bo-Katan Kryze on "The Mandalorian". She quit smoking when she received fan mail from little girls saying they wanted to be like Starbuck when they grew up.
