Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 1999, Mitch released his first CD. What was it called?

Answer: Strategic Grill Locations

Mitch's self-released debut CD, Strategic Grill Locations, was recorded September 7, 1999, at a comedy club called the Laff Stop in Houston, Texas. The name of the CD actually comes from a joke that was not featured in the CD:
2. In which city and state was Mitch born?

Answer: St. Paul, Minnesota

Mitchell Lee Hedberg was born on February 24, 1968 to Swedish immigrants Arne and Mary Hedberg. He has two sisters named Wendy and Angie. Despite being born with a heart defect, for which he received extensive treatment during his childhood, Mitch never publicly expressed any complaints about his early life.

He grew up in St. Paul, dividing his time between part time jobs and a budding interest in performance, which was nurtured in his high school drama class.
3. Which high school did Mitch attend?

Answer: Harding Senior High School

Mitch was a member of Harding Senior High's class of 1986. After his death, students honored the alumnus by running several pictures of him in their "student of the month" columns. Harding High is located on the east side of St. Paul, as is its chief athletic rival, Johnson Senior High School.
4. What is Mitch's wife's name?

Answer: Lynn

Mitch met fellow comedian Lynn Shawcroft at a New Faces comedy showcase in 1996, and the couple married on February 25, 1999, one day after Mitch's 31st birthday. Lynn now manages Mitch's official website. Before they were married, Mitch once remarked in a routine, "My girlfriend is named Lynn.

She spells her name 'Lynn'. My old girlfriend's name is Lyn, too, but she spells it 'Lyn'. Every now and then I screw up, I call my new girlfriend by my old girlfriend's name, and she can tell because I don't say 'n' as long."
5. In his first CD, Mitch jokes about an infestation he says he has in his apartment. What kind of creatures does this infestation involve?

Answer: Koala bears

This quote comes from Mitch's first CD, Strategic Grill Locations: "My apartment is infested with koala bears. It's the cutest infestation ever. Way better than cockroaches. When I turn on the light, a bunch of koala bears scatter, and I don't want them to! 'Hey - hold on fellas! Let me hold one of you, and feed you a leaf.'"
6. Mitch was inspired to start his stand-up routine by a coworker.

Answer: True

Mitch was working in the kitchen of a restaurant in South Florida in 1989, when a coworker convinced the funnyman to try his hand at open mic night at a club in nearby Boca Raton. This is where his stand-up career began. Two years later, Mitch relocated to Seattle, where he slowly gained popularity while touring the nightclub circuit.
7. In which movie did Mitch appear with a well-known rock musician?

Answer: "Almost Famous" (2000)

Mitch appeared in all of these movies except for "Detroit Rock City." In "Almost Famous," he plays a road manager for the Eagles, opposite Peter Frampton, whose character is named Reg. The film, about a teenage boy's experiences accompanying a band on tour while writing an article for Rolling Stone, was written and directed by Cameron Crowe, based on his own experiences writing for the magazine. Mitch had some amusing things to say about his experience making the film: "Now, Peter Frampton is a musical legend, but I don't know his music. So when you meet a legend and you don't know his body of work, you have to divert from that fact. 'Hey, Peter Frampton, do you like toast, too? Yes, as do I; it's warm and crispy and a perfect place for jelly to lay.'"
8. Which cartoon did Mitch appear on?

Answer: All of these.

Mitch voiced several characters on the cartoon "Home Movies" from 1999-2001. On "Shorties Watching Shorties," he narrated his own material to cartoon animations in an episode that aired in 2004. He guest starred as himself on "Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist" for two episodes in 1999. He also had a very funny appearance as a waiter in a 1998 episode of "That 70's Show."
9. In "Mitch All Together," Mitch mentions a place that was his "American Embassy" in Ireland. Which American franchise was he referring to?

Answer: Subway

This is one of my favorite Mitch Jokes. "In Kilkenny Ireland, they don't have anything American over there, it's very cool. But they did have a Subway sandwich shop. That was the one thing they had American, and that became the American Embassy to me. I would go out to a bar and [tick] off an Irish dude and have him chase me to the Subway. I said, 'Dude, I'm sorry, but you're out of your jurisdiction.

But you can have a cold cut combo, though.'" The name of this CD, which was released in 2003 by Comedy Central Records, actually comes from a quote in the first CD: "You know they call corn-on-the-cob, "corn-on-the-cob", but that's how it comes out of the ground.

They should just call it corn, and every other type of corn, corn-off-the-cob. It's not like if someone cut off my arm they would call it 'Mitch', and then re-attached it, and call it 'Mitch-all-together'."
10. Sadly, Mitch passed away on March 29, 2005. Who was the first to find him?

Answer: His wife.

Late in the evening of March 29, 2005, Mitch's wife Lynn discovered her husband unresponsive in a hotel room in Livingston, New Jersey. His death was first announced on the Howard Stern Show on April 1. Knowing Mitch's quirky sense of humor, many who heard the announcement initially thought it to be an April Fool's joke. Unfortunately, the news proved to be all too true. Mitch's wife Lynn later confirmed that Mitch had been preparing for his own HBO special, something he'd always wanted to do. Dave Attel, Mitch's friend and former tourmate, dedicated a toast to Mitch at the end of every show on his "Insomniac" tour.

Thanks for taking the quiz! Please take a moment to rate it, and if you liked the sampling of Mitch material listed here, consider picking up his CD's. You won't regret it!
