In one episode, Bob and his team were having difficulties trying to build a road made of concrete. They tried to use a hand roller to flatten it but that didn't work. They needed to use a heavy, slow-moving vehicle with a big metal roller at the front. This is a vehicle called a steamroller. A friend of Roley's, a bird called Bird, introduced Roley to Bob. The concrete road got flattened; they were happy with his work, and so Roley stayed as part of Bob's team ever since.

Muck is coloured red. He has black caterpillar tracks on red wheels. These tracks stop him from sinking or getting stuck in the mud. Muck has a bulldozer blade on the front so that he can push large amounts of soil, sand or rubble to wherever Bob needs it. He is friendly and helpful but he often acts without thinking, causing problems for Bob and the team.

The Chromis fish is usually a light blue-green apart from when the males change to a different colour during the mating season.

Pilchard is Bob the Builder's cat, but with a fishy name. She has been described as being sometimes lazy, but adventurous. In one episode, she appeared to be ungrateful for a gift she had been given. Pilchard is loved by Bob, Wendy, the machines and lots of "Bob the Builder" fans. One fan described Pilchard as "my favourite cat".

In the song "Find That Cat", Wendy sings, "Pilchard is a clever cat; she loves to hide and play".

The planets Neptune and Uranus are blue. Lofty is blue. He has a blue smiling mouth and his wheels are blue but with black tyres.

Lofty is the tallest and strongest of Bob's machines, but not the most confident. Sometimes he is scared and needs encouragement. Lofty is a mobile crane meaning that he is not fixed to the ground. He can be driven to different building sites in the town. He has a hook hanging down from a cable at the front of his telescopic arm. This means that his arm can be made longer or shorter, whatever is needed.

Answer: Magenta

Benny didn't appear on the show until 2004. The stunning magenta colour of his main body is in contrast to the black bucket fitted at the end of his arm, and the black wheels, tracks, and operator cab. Benny is an excavator, sometimes called a digger. He has a bucket which is a large shovel fitted to the end of his arm for lifting soil, snow, rubble, and gravel. Excavators are used for digging trenches.

Benny is friendly and enthusiastic and is keen to help Bob, Wendy, Scoop and the other machines.

I could have listed the colours green or brown as options as unripe bananas are green and overripe bananas are mostly brown. There are varieties of bananas of other colours, but more people should be able to identify bananas with the colour yellow. That's how Benny chose his nickname for Scoop. He is a yellow digger.

This type of digger is also known as an excavator or backhoe loader. You might have seen a vehicle on a building site that looks like a tractor, but with a massive shovel on the front, and a smaller digging bucket at the end of a long arm on the back.

In the original "Bob the Builder" series, Scoop has catchphrases like "I can dig it" and "I'm in charge" (because, apart from Bob, he was in charge).

Dizzy is orange. She has the ability to use her wheels like we use our hands and feet. This means she can pick things up and even throw them. Her personality is described as energetic, tomboyish, and cheerful. She enjoys listening to music through headphones. Dizzy's original catchphrase was the word "Brilliant!". In the reboot series, her catchphrase is "Pour to perfection".

Wendy's hard hat is blue. Sapphires are blue. She sometimes helps with the construction work, but she is mainly seen in the office, running the business, and making sure that they have the right tools and equipment for each job. Wendy is a hard worker and often tries to take too much work on herself instead of delegating it to others.

She is often seen wearing a green shirt, or fashionable clothes.

Bob's hard hat is yellow. He is in charge of the day-to-day running of each building site wherever he happens to be. Along with Wendy, he is in charge of his own yard where the machines live.

If any of the machines asks, "Can we fix it?", Bob's positive answer is "Yes, we can". He comes from a family of builders such as his father Robert. Bob becomes even more aware of safety in later episodes when he starts wearing safety glasses to protect his eyes. He is described as hard-working, encouraging and kind-hearted.

Farmer Pickles is a friend of Bob's and often helps him with his construction work. He owns a turquoise tractor called Travis; a maroon forklift truck called Sumsy; and a red truck called Packer.
