Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the spell that produces water from the tip of the caster's wand?

Answer: Aguamenti

Aguamenti is used first (by incantation) in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" because this is when Professor Flitwick taught it to the Charms class. Before this, in "Harry Potter and the Goblet Of Fire", it is only described when Fleur Delacour uses water to put out her dress. Aparecium makes invisible ink appear, Glisseo causes a staircase to flatten and form a slide and Aquanium was made up by me, the word aqua implying that water is involved.
2. Which spell can be used to dig in places that cannot usually be dug, such as concrete or metal?

Answer: Defodio

Defodio is used in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" by Harry, Ron and Hermione to escape from Gringotts bank. This is the only known use of it. Deletrius removes the evidence of any previous spell cast by a wand, Gougium I created because the word gouge means to dig; and Descendo makes things sink or go down.
3. What spell creates a high powered wind, which if used in a certain way can be used to blast things?

Answer: Deprimo

Deprimo is used in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" when Hermione uses it to blast through the roof of the Lovegood's living room ceiling to escape the Death Eaters. Dissendium opens the secret passageway in Hogwarts covered by the statue of the humped one eyed witch. Wingardium Leviosa makes things levitate and Salvio Hexia provides some protection against hexes.
4. Peskipiksi Pesternomi worked the one time it was used.

Answer: False

It was used to no avail by Professor Lockhart to try and remove Cornish Pixies he set loose in "Harry Potter and the Chamber Of Secrets". However, nobody knows if there is actually a spell for that job, and whether Lockhart merely got the incantation wrong.
5. Which spell ties someone or something up with ropes?

Answer: Incarcerous

Incarcerous is used first with incantation in "Harry Potter and the Order Of The Pheonix" when Professor Umbridge uses it on a Centaur. Before then it could have been used in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner Of Azkaban" when Professor Lupin tied Severus Snape up in the Shrieking Shack. Ferula creates a bandage/splint, Obscuro creates a blindfold over your target's eyes and Wrapulus I made up seeing as wrap can imply tieing something up.
6. What is the name of the spell that specifically lifts a tree off the ground and makes it hang in mid-air?

Answer: Mobiliarbus

Technically any one of the four would work but the spell specifically for a tree is Mobiliarbus. Mobilicorpus does the same but with bodies, Wingardium Leviosa would make anything levitate and Locomotor tree would make a tree lift out the ground and come to you/follow you around. Mobiliarbus is used in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner Of Azkaban" when Hermione uses it to move a Christmas tree in the Three Broomsticks.
7. Hermione uses five different spells to protect the tent that she, Harry and Ron are staying in when looking for Horcruxes.

Answer: True

The tent in question is from "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows". Hermione uses Cave Inimicum which generally strengthens their defenses, Muffaliato which stops nearby people hearing your conversation, Protego Totalum to protect the entire area, Repello Muggletum to stop muggles coming near to it and Salvio Hexia to stop hexes.

She also uses many other items to help defend the tent as well.
8. Which spell brings statues or suits of armour to life and allows you to control them?

Answer: Piertotum Locomotor

Piertotum Locomotor is used in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" when Professor McGonagall makes the Hogwarts statues come to life to help defend Hogwarts when it is attacked. Imperio allows you to control people but cannot bring people-like objects to life. Prior Incantato shows you what spell a wand performed last and Locomotor Mortis locks the target's legs together meaning they can only hop around.

It is a lesser version of Petrificus Totalus (the full body bind curse).
9. What is the name of the spell that brings a person back to consciousness?

Answer: Rennervate

Rennervate is used first in "Harry Potter and the Goblet Of Fire" when Amos Diggory uses it to wake up Winky the house elf. It is also seen in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" when Harry is trying to wake Dumbledore up in the Horcrux cave. It is the counter-spell to Stupefy. Furnunculus creates boils over the target's body; Reparo repairs a broken object and Serpensortia creates a snake or serpent from the tip of the caster's wand.
10. Did the Half-Blood Prince (also known as Severus Snape) create exactly five spells?

Answer: No

Professor Snape has actually created six spells! These are: Langlock which glues the victim's tongue to the roof of their mouth; Levicorpus and Liberacorpus which make a person hang by their ankles and bring them back down respectively; Muffaliato which stops nearby people hearing your conversation; The Toenail Growing Hex which speaks for itself; and finally Sectumsempra which cuts a person like a sword.

There is a so-called seventh one which is supposed to heal the damage done by Sectumsempra, but it cannot be verified as in the book "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" it is only described as "muttering".
