Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Once you learn the spell Aguamenti, which of these Muggle items can you throw away?

Answer: water hose

The Aguamenti Charm causes a stream of water to come out of the user's wand. It is commonly used to put out fires. It is first seen in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", but its name isn't revealed until "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince". A similar spell is Aqua Eructo.
2. Perhaps you need to place something on a high shelf, but you're too short to reach that high. You don't need to go get a step-stool, just take out your wand and use what charm?

Answer: Wingardium Leviosa

Just "swish and flick" and whatever you need to be moved will began floating upwards. Wingardium Leviosa is the Levitation Charm. It is first preformed in Professor Flitwick's Charms class in "Harry Potter and the The Philosopher's Stone". Other spells that can lift objects or people include Ascendio, the Hover Charm, and Mobiliarbus.
3. Muggles might need a flashlight to see in the dark, but any good wizard or witch knows that this spell works just as well, and it doesn't even require batteries! What spell should you use while you're sneaking around Hogwarts at night?

Answer: Lumos

Lumos, or the Wand-Lighting Charm, creates a beam of light on the tip of the user's wand. Its counter-charm, which makes the light go out, is Nox. It was first used in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets". The spell Lumos Maxima can make a larger ball of light.
4. What don't you need to bring with you on your trip to the beach if you know how to perform the Bubble-Head Charm?

Answer: scuba diving equipment

The Bubble-Head Charm creates a large bubble around the user's head and allows them to breathe under water. It can also be used to keep out bad smells. The incantation for it is unknown. It was first used in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" by Cedric Diggory and Fleur Delacour during the second task of the Triwizard Tournament.
5. Sure, scissors or a knife could be used to cut something. But using what charm would be much quicker?

Answer: Diffindo

Diffindo is the Severing Charm. It is used to cut or rip objects and can also cause injury to people. It is first seen in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire". Its name comes from the Latin word "diffindere", which means "to divide or split".
6. Who needs medicine or a visit to the doctor, when this spell can be used? Which of the following spells would you use to heal scratches or even a broken nose?

Answer: Episkey

Episkey is one of a few healing spells used primarily for minor injuries. It's name comes from the Greek word "episkevi", which means "repair". It first appeared in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince". Nymphadora Tonks used it to fix Harry's broken nose.
7. You think you need soap, water, mops, or sponges to clean? Think again! Which of these charms makes cleaning things as easy as a flick of a wand?

Answer: Scourgify

Scourgify, or the Scouring Charm, is used to clean objects. It can also be used on people to clean their mouths out. It was first used in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire". Another cleaning spell is Tergeo.
8. Simply using the spell Sonorus is much easier than having to carry around which of the following?

Answer: megaphone

The Sonorus spell amplifies the user's voice or another sound. Its name comes from the Latin word "sonorus", which means "loud; noisy". It was first used by Ludo Bagman at the Quidditch World Cup in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire". Its counter-spell is Quietus.
9. Knowing the spell Incendio can be quite helpful. Which of these won't you need to carry with you after you learn how to properly use it?

Answer: matches or lighter

The Fire-Making Charm, Incendio, does what its name implies by sending flames out of the user's wand. Its name comes from the Latin word "incendere", which means "to set fire (to)". It is unknown when it was first used in the books since the user usually says the spell in their mind. Another spell that involves fire is Lacarnum Inflamarae, which creates a ball of fire.
10. And last, but not least, what won't you need if you know the spell Alohomora?

Answer: key

The spell Alohomora, or the Unlocking Charm, unlocks doors, although it may not work if the door has been bewitched. It is also known as the Thief's Friend. It was first used by Hermione in "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone". The counter-charm, which locks doors, is Colloportus.
