Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As busy as -

Answer: A bee

This is generally applied to someone who moves about quickly getting many things done. It is a fitting phrase, since bees are hard working and need to get about a lot in their short lives.

Bees are known to forage up to eight miles from their hive, although an average of one mile is more common. They can also fly at up to 20mph - or 12mph when returning to their hive fully loaded with goodness.
2. As blind as -

Answer: A bat

Okay, so bats are not really blind, but the saying has been associated with someone who has sight problems. Bats are active at night and have a very sharp and sensitive vision that enables them to fly in pitch darkness. They can see as well as humans but have a different way of detecting other creatures or thugs in their path.

If you are driving across Australia and fail to see a sign declaring "next fuel stop 500 miles", you could be accused of being "as blind as bat". If you then run out of fuel, you might feel "as dumb as a fence post".
3. As light as -

Answer: A feather

Something that weighs very little might be said to be "as light as a feather".

Now, there are many conundrums surrounding feathers. One question often debated is: "which is heavier, a pound of lead, or a pound of feathers?" In fact they both weigh the same.
4. As thin as -

Answer: A rake

"As thin as a rake" is usually applied to someone who is very thin.

A rake is a set of long metal "teeth" attached to a wooden, or metal pole, and used to gather leaves or smooth out top soil.
5. Fighting like -

Answer: Cats and dogs

Or maybe "like brothers and sisters"?

It is an often witnessed experience that dogs chase cats. This is something that is in their nature: when dogs were first domesticated they were trained to chase and kill smaller creatures.

However, individual dogs and cats can co-exist happily if they are introduced to each other at very young ages - as many cute videos on the internet will prove.
6. Fits like -

Answer: A glove

This is a saying for a piece of clothing that fits perfectly. Gloves are important for protection and keeping out the cold and choosing the right size is important.

For dexterity, a tight pair of gloves is needed. If it is just warmth that is needed, then a slightly looser pair will allow more air around the fingers. Mittens, which do not have separate finger coverings, are preferred by some as being warmer than gloves.
7. As slow as -

Answer: A sloth

Sloths are tree-hugging creatures native to South America. They have an extremely slow rate of getting energy from their food and move about 41 yards a day on average.

Sloths are solitary creatures and no danger to humans - unless they are disturbed. They do not like to be touched and have teeth and nails as sharp as a razor (to fit in another simile.). Sloths are extremely powerful and an untreated wound easily gets infected.
8. Chattering like -

Answer: A monkey

When monkeys chatter, their teeth often clash. Scientists have found that chattering is a way of communicating, and some monkeys chatter in a different fashion to members of their own 'family' than they do to strangers.
9. As cunning as -

Answer: A fox

Sometimes people will say "as sly as a fox".

Foxes are small, wild animals native to Europe and some believe they are among the most intelligent creatures around. They have learnt to evade predators, particularly humans. Foxes are omnivorous; can eat anything and they can survive on wild berries as well as smaller animal prey.

Foxes can also be quite brazen, and there are stories about them entering human homes to find food.

Because of their red coats, foxes are very attractive, and while some people have tried to keep them as pets, it rarely works. Foxes do not like to live indoors and - they smell awful. (In some parts of the United States it is illegal to keep a fox as a pet.)
10. As proud as -

Answer: A peacock

Being "as proud as a peacock" is often taken as many that a person has a high option of themselves.

Peacocks are very attractive birds that often display their highly decorative tail feathers.

Meanwhile, there are no bonus points in this quiz for knowing the answer to the question "what colour are a peacock's eggs?"
