Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which band was first to sing "It's the End of the World (As We Know It)"?

Answer: R.E.M.

Originally released on the 1998 R.E.M. album "Document", "It's the End of the World (As We Know It)" was a frantic song about the apocalypse (as it was). Predating most of the band's most popular singles by mere years (such as "Orange Crush", "Losing my Religion", and "Everybody Hurts"), "End of the World" was followed by many covers from bands such as Great Big Sea who turned it into a hit on their 1997 album "Play", and No Doubt, who performed it live.
2. The End, released at the turn of the millennium, was seen by many as the last of which toy line?

Answer: Ty Beanie Babies

As Y2K rolled around, Ty Beanie Babies, at the near-apex of their popularity, surged in sales with the release of The End, a black Beanie Baby that many thought would be the very last of the popular collectible line. With Ty Warner, the owner of the company, effectively 'retiring' all pre-2000 Beanie Babies, an unprecedented number of sales earned millions for the novelty company.

After New Year's Day, Ty released a new bear known as 'The Beginning', restarting the cycle and continuing sales.
3. Directed by Peter Hyams, what 1999 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger was about a woman assigned to bear the child of Satan?

Answer: End of Days

Also starring Robin Tunney and Gabriel Byrne, this 1999 film was about the coming of Satan. Receiving a number of negative reviews from critics, the movie was a success financially, earning over $200,000,000 in the box office. Despite this, it earned three Razzie nominations including one for Schwarzenegger's performance. Director Peter Hyams also worked on the 1997 horror film "The Relic", and the Arthur C. Clarke film "2010: The Year We Made Contact" in 1984 (as the sequel to "2001: A Space Odyssey").
4. The terminus of a subway/train route is often recognized by which of these expressions?

Answer: End of the Line

A terminus refers to the end of a route. In the case of a subway route, the terminus is the final station down the tracks, ending as the terminating point of the line. The same can be said for a predetermined bus route as there must always be a starting or ending station along the journey. Terminus is also the name of the Roman God of Boundary Points whose date of worship is in February.
5. This area is between the goal line and the end line on both ends of a football field. What is its name?

Answer: End zone

Also known as the goal area, the end zone (seen in North American football practices) was made after a distinguishable difference was made between the goal and end lines at each end of the field. In order to score a touchdown, a player must have the ball within the end zone though before rule changes in the 2000s, the ball simply needed to cross the goal line. Now, in NFL games, players must cross the line at any point with the ball in their possession to score.
6. In 2009, the Black Eyed Peas released an album known as "The E.N.D.". What does this acronym stand for?

Answer: The Energy Never Dies

Released in June 2009, "The E.N.D." brought will.i.am, apl.de.ap, Taboo, and Fergie back for their follow-up to the popular "Monkey Business" album. Launching with the popular song "Boom Boom Pow" and having a much more electronic sound than their earlier dance tunes, the album was popular with critics and consumers.

Other singles included the extremely-popular summer 2009 song "I Gotta Feeling", the Fergie-fueled "Meet Me Halfway", "Imma Be", and "Rock That Body". The album hit number one on the Billboard 200 and won 'Best Pop Vocal Album' at the Grammys (though it was nominated six times in the year).
7. The thirteenth and final book of Lemony Snicket's "Series of Unfortunate Events" was released under which name?

Answer: The End

Released in 2006, "The End" concluded the long-running "Series of Unfortunate Events" by Lemony Snicket (aka Daniel Handler). After departing from the Hotel Denouement in "The Penultimate Peril", the Baudelaire orphans found themselves trapped at sea with the despicable Count Olaf before reaching a remote island. Attempting to make right the wrongs of their past and release themselves from the unfortunate events that are their lives, the kids take their final thirteen chapters to free themselves from their enemy in one last locale.
8. Known for his cinematic 'twist endings', which director was responsible for "The Sixth Sense", "Unbreakable", and "Signs"?

Answer: M. Night Shyamalan

Although many of Shyamalan's earlier works such as 1999's "The Sixth Sense", 2000's "Unbreakable", and others have included twist endings in which the unexpected occurs, some of his later works, such as "Lady in the Water" and "The Happening", have been considered on the weaker side of such plot twists. Shyamalan continued his streak with "Signs" in 2002 and "The Village" in 2004, though his repertoire of films became notably panned.

While other directors make use of this plot device, it became a quick trademark for Shyamalan due to his frequency of use while both directing and writing the screenplays he creates.
9. Which of these is the name of Bilbo Baggins' home in The Shire in J. R. R. Tolkien's "Middle-Earth" novels?

Answer: Bag End

Part of Hobbiton in The Shire, Bag End is notable for being the house set in the hillside occupied by Bilbo Baggins, the primary character of J. R. R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit" (later appearing in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy). Bag End makes an appearance in the "Lord of the Rings" film series as well as the starting point for Frodo Baggins' quest with 'the one ring to rule them all'. Hobbiton and Bag End are both found in Westfarthing, a region of the Shire taking in most of its inhabitants.
10. "The End", by The Beatles, appeared on which of the band's albums?

Answer: Abbey Road

Notable for being both the band's final collectively-recorded song and the only title in their anthology to contain a drum solo by Ringo Starr, "The End" appeared towards the end of the "Abbey Road" album in 1969. Despite being their final recording, the band's "Let It Be" album was released after "Abbey Road" and after the four had split up.

It is the only unlockable song of "The Beatles: Rock Band".
