A television show called "Get Smart" first aired on NBC from September 18, 1965, until April 12, 1969. The malevolent Dr. Ratton built the humanoid robot Hymie, which bore Ratton's father's name.

It was a tongue-in-cheek program taking the mickey out of secret agent programs like James Bond. Hymie looked just like a normal man, but looks are deceiving. Underneath his clothes, he was installed with a massive amount of electrical circuitry, which made him very strong, and a computer-controlled brain that would analyse things at an incredible speed.

The plot centres around the organisation called "CONTROL" that is in conflict with their enemy called "KAOS.". Max Smart worked for "CONTROL," hence the name "Get Smart," and Hymie was part of the team.

John Steinbeck was the author of the novel The 'Grapes of Wrath' which was published on April 14, 1939 just before WWII. "The Grapes of Wrath" follows the Jode family, a destitute family of tenant farmers forced from their Oklahoma home by drought; they are the main characters of this Great Depression-era story set in Oklahoma.

The book became an instant hit, both critically and commercially. In its first year of publication, it sold over 400,000 copies. The New York Times hailed it as "a magnificent novel of America." Steinbeck was given the 1940 Pulitzer Prize in Fiction.

A fictitious pirate named Captain Pugwash makes appearances in a number of British children's books, comic strips, and television programs written and illustrated by John Ryan. John was a British animator and cartoonist. "Captain Pugwash" first appeared in the British children's comic "Eagle" in 1950.
