Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Now that you are rich, you will want a nice house. One of the most expensive areas in the world is in the United Kingdom, and it isn't London. In Sandbanks, properties have cost well over £1,000,000 at times. Which county is this in?

Answer: Dorset

Sandbanks is close to Poole, in Dorset. A sandy spit of flat land jutting out into the sea has become one of the most expensive areas in the world. The original, often timber, small bungalows and cottages have been replaced by homes for millionaires. The attraction is the location, which offers good private berthing for boats.

Other local amenities include a championship golf course, a blue flag beach and an exclusive yacht club. The rest of Europe is only a short sail away.
2. Now you have your executive home, so you need an appropriate car. You decide on a Veyron, one of the most expensive street cars in the world. Who makes it?

Answer: Bugatti

Bugatti were originally French, but the marque was later owned by Volkswagen (German). The Veyron Super Sports was released in 2005 with a price tag of $2.4 million. For that, you get 0-60 miles in 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 267 miles per hour. This is, of course, illegal in pretty much every country in the world, but if you can afford the car you can probably afford to hire a race track to drive it on.
3. Your wife is feeling a little left out of this spending spree. She has her eye on a very nice, famous onyx and diamond panther bracelet. Which lady originally owned this piece of jewellery?

Answer: Wallis Simpson (The Duchess of Windsor)

This bracelet was part of the collection of jewellery owned by the Duchess of Windsor. In 2010, it sold at a Sotheby's auction for $12.4 million to an anonymous buyer. It was not the most expensive piece of jewellery ever sold, though. Several pieces easily out-price it. One of the most notable examples is a 24.78 carat rectangular cut pink diamond ring that, also in 2010, sold in Geneva for a staggering $46.2 million.
4. Your new home lacks a certain something. You decide some artwork is needed, and a painting called "Dora Maar au Chat" catches your eye. Who painted this work?

Answer: Picasso

This Picasso portrait of his mistress fetched $106.1 million in 2006. Picasso paintings regularly sell for high prices. His "Boy With a Pipe" reached an auction price of $124.3 million in 2004. One of the most expensive paintings sold was "The Card Players" by Cezanne. Oil-rich Qatar bought this for $250 million in 2010 and displayed it in their national museum.
5. You want to impress your new rich friends, so you have a dinner party. Naturally you serve caviar. Which fish eggs generally provide the most expensive caviar?

Answer: Sturgeon

Sturgeon roe from wild fish living in the Caspian and Black Sea area usually provide the most expensive varieties of caviar. The price varies according to size, flavour and colour. It is usually eaten as a garnish or spread. Overfishing has led to dwindling fish stocks, and this has led to alternatives being developed. Among these are roe from the whitefish and North Atlantic salmon.
6. You've bought the house and the car, but you still feel you lack certain status symbols. An opportunistic salesman suggests that what you really need is something from Sunseeker. What is he trying to sell you?

Answer: A luxury boat

Sunseeker makes a range of luxury boats, and have done for many years. They range from one capable of long distance cruising to sports yachts built for performance. They are exactly the sort of thing you see moored in Cannes, St Tropez or Monaco. The largest boast impressive bedrooms and dining rooms.

They offer a full-size kitchen for the Michelin-starred chef you will hire to cook for you, and separate crew quarters.
7. You need some rich man's toys. Stuart Hughes designed an item encrusted in diamonds that is perfect for you. What is it?

Answer: Mobile phone

The diamond encrusted iPhone was commissioned by an Australian business man and cost a mere £5 million at the time of release in 2010. It was set with more than five hundred diamonds, with one eight-carat diamond set where the home button would normally be.
8. If it was a big lottery win and you still have money to burn, you could always buy a football team. Who is the multi-millionaire once associated with Fulham Football Club?

Answer: Mohamed Al-Fayed

One-time owner of Harrods department store, Mohamed Al-Fayed bought the freehold to Fulham Football Club in 1997. In 2011, he attracted a lot of criticism from fans when he erected a statue of Michael Jackson outside the ground. Not only did people feel that a statue of a former player would have been more appropriate, they also criticised it for being a bad likeness and looking generally cheap and nasty. Mr Al-Fayed responded by saying that if they didn't appreciate his gift to the Club, he didn't want them as fans.
9. A Caribbean home is a must for any millionaire. Which Caribbean island has been owned by Sir Richard Branson?

Answer: Necker Island

Richard Branson owns all of Necker Island, which is part of the British Virgin Islands. It is operated as a holiday resort, but a very exclusive one as only 28 guests at a time can stay there. The island was completely uninhabited when he purchased it.

In 2011, a fire caused by a lightning strike completely destroyed the main house. Around 20 guests were staying there at the time, including Sir Richard's 90 year old mother, who was rescued by actress Kate Winslet.
10. You decide to make one final purchase with the remainder of your money. A watch, you decide, will complete your spending spree. In 1999, a watch sold at auction for just over $11 million. What make was it?

Answer: Patek Phillipe

Known as the "Henry Graves Supercomplication", this gold watch is dated to 1932. It was made for Henry Graves, took four years to make, and has 24 separate functions. Patek Phillipe are a Swiss watchmaker founded in 1851. They are noted for their complicated mechanical watches, which are much sought after by collectors.
