1. Who was the first Prime Minister of Australia?

Answer: Edmund Barton

Edmund Barton was sworn in as Australia's first Prime Minister on 1st January 1901, when the six colonies merged to form a new country, the Commonwealth of Australia. He was as a member of the now-defunct Protectionist Party. There is a suburb in Canberra named after him.
Henry Parkes (1815-1896) was one of the Founding Fathers, instrumental in bringing the colonies together to form Australia. He was Premier of New South Wales for three separate terms during the 1870s and 1880s. He died in 1896- hedid not live to see the birth of a new nation.

The Matildas are the female soccer team, and first appeared in the Women's World Cup in 1995. Their biggest win was also against American Samoa, 21-0 in 1998. The Matilda nickname is derived from "Waltzing Matilda" by Banjo Patterson.
