Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Probably the first thing you think of when you think of cubes is a popular toy made in 1974 under the name "Magic Cube". What is this toy?

Answer: Rubik's Cube

The Rubik's Cube was invented by Erno Rubik in 1974. It wasn't named Rubik's Cube until 1980. The Rubik's Cube comes in several different sizes, the most familiar being the 3X3X3 cube. It also comes in a more difficult 4X4X4, and a near impossible 5X5X5 cube. For an easier challenge, try the 2X2X2 cube.

The 4X4X4 cube is called "Rubik's Revenge," the 5X5X5 is called "Professor Cube," and the smaller 2X2X2 is called "Pocket Cube," also called "Mini-Cube."
2. This video game system is Nintendo's fourth video game console in wide release. Which is it?

Answer: Gamecube

The Gamecube was made after Nintendo 64, but before the Nintendo Wii. The first of these, the Nintendo Entertainment System, or NES, was made from 1983 to 1996. The second of these systems is the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, or SNES, made from 1991 to 1998.

The next was the Nintendo 64, or N64, made from 1996 to 2002. Following this was the Gamecube, or GCN. Another of these consoles made by Nintendo, is the Wii. The Wii began in 2006.
3. Kleenex is a brand of tissue, and often comes in the shape of a cube. Which of the following is NOT a way to use a cube shaped Kleenex box?

Answer: All of these are things you can do with a Kleenex box

Kleenex was a word invented by Kimberly-Clark and has been used as a trademark since June 12, 1924. You can use these boxes for several different things, the three choices being just some of them. Many pet stores and online sources recommend using a tissue box and replacing it every few months as a bed for your hamster, if you do not want to purchase one. You can always use a tissue box to store your junk. If you cut the bottom out of a Kleenex box, and cut the side out with the bottom flap, and re-tape it slightly wider, it will easily fit over another tissue box.
4. This system was released in 2001 as an intended competitor of Sony's Playstation 2 and Nintendo's Gamecube. What is this console?

Answer: XBox

There is no such thing as an XBox 180. The XBox was released on November 15th, 2001 in North America. It wasn't released until February 22 in Japan, and March 14th of that same year in Europe and Australia. XBox came before XBox 360, released in 2005. XBox and XBox 360 are Microsoft consoles.
5. What common frozen water shape do you put in drinks?

Answer: Ice cubes

Ice cubes are more common than crushed ice to cool a drink because they melt a lot slower, and therefore keep our drink colder longer. Although ice cubes can come in several different shapes and sizes, cubes are the most popular shape when ordering a mixed drink "on the rocks".

They are made in freezers, sometimes in an ice tray, but some freezers come with an icemaker, so you don't have to freeze the ice yourself.
6. These are common items that can be used in several different games, and you can sometimes roll "snake eyes".

Answer: Dice

Dice can be found in many different games, and sometimes make games all in themselves. A common pair of dice will have a total of 42 dots on them, with one dot on each die on one side to represent one, two dots on each to represent two, and so on until you reach six. Snake eyes are when you roll two ones.

The six is opposite of one, the three is opposite of four, and the five is opposite of two. This is the case with ALL dice, each opposing side totalling seven.
7. This game comes in a cube shaped box and is played with a huge deck of cards with fractured sayings and items on the cards.

Answer: Mad Gab

Mad Gab is a game created by Mattel, and is designed to be played in two teams of 2 to 12. Each team will have two minutes to sound out three puzzles of easy to hard levels of difficulty. When you sound out the words, they make a phrase. You get more points the faster you solve the puzzles.
8. On "SpongeBob SquarePants", Patrick's secret box is a perfect cube.

Answer: false

Patrick's box is a rectangular box, not cube. In this episode, SpongeBob does whatever it takes to look in this box that Patrick will not let him see. He claims it is a secret. SpongeBob finally looks inside the secret box near the end of the episode, and is relieved to see that it was just a piece of string.

After SpongeBob leaves, we see Patrick look in the box. He says it is a good thing that SpongeBob didn't pull the secret string to open the secret compartment of the secret box. It holds an embarrassing snapshot of SpongeBob at a Christmas Party.
9. This toy was popular during the '50s through '70s, and involves a tune and a clown. What is this toy?

Answer: Jack-In-The-Box

The Jack-In-The-Box was a very popular toy in the '50s through '70s, although it dates back to the 15th century. Most boxes include the song "Pop Goes the Weasel" when you turn a crank. After turning the crank a certain amount of time, something pops out the top, usually a clown.

The Jack-In-The-Box was originally made to protect villages from devils, and in French is called "diable en boîte". meaning "boxed devil".
10. This is popular toy that can be connected to form different structures, many pieces being cube shaped. People have been made with this toy, even video games. What is this popular toy?

Answer: LEGO Blocks

LEGO blocks are a very popular toy that was invented in 1932, but wasn't named LEGO until 1934. In 1940, LEGO began making their toys plastic, but it wasn't until 1949 that they began making the interlocking bricks we are familiar with today. Several video games have been made completely out of LEGO blocks, including "LEGO Star Wars" and "LEGO Indiana Jones".
