Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What does the 'V' stand for in the acronym HVAC?

Answer: Ventilation

HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) is the system that moves heat and air through a building as small as a house or as big as a stadium. An HVAC system works because it has three parts: a heating unit, a cooling unit, and an air duct.

To warm a house, air is pulled in by a heat pump and heated by coils. The air is heated to the desired temperature and blown into the house. To cool a house, air is pulled over coils that are filled with refrigerant and then blown into the house. With heated and chilled air, any bad gasses are expelled before the air is blown into the house.
2. The ghillie suit comes from the word gillie meaning what in Scottish?

Answer: Outdoor servant

The first ghillie suits worn in combat were by British soldiers during the Second Boer War. Soldiers use ghillie suits to blend into their surroundings and not be seen by the enemy.

The ghillie suit comes from the Scottish word gillie which means outdoor servant. British soldiers were the first to use the ghillie suit in combat, but gamekeepers in Scotland were the first to use ghillie suits as a way to camouflage themselves while hunting.
3. In 2022, who wrote and sang "Anti-Hero"?

Answer: Taylor Swift

"Anti-Hero" was written by Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff (who also sang back-up) for her 2022 album "Midnights". During a "Billboard" interview, Taylor spoke about how her new album deals with lyrics on insecurities she has about herself. "Anti-Hero" became a number one song in the UK and US.

Taylor wrote and directed the video for the song. Besides Taylor, the video starred comedians Mike Birbiglia and John Early as well as actress Mary Elizabeth Ellis.
4. Christ the Redeemer statue stands tall in what South American city?

Answer: Rio de Janeiro

Christ the Redeemer stands on top of Mount Corcovado, which is part of the rain forest in Rio. It was sculpted by Paul Landowski for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese in Brazil. Christ the Redeemer was built by a Brazilian engineer named Heitor da Silva Costa with help from a French engineer named Albert Caquot. The face of Christ the Redeemer was created by a Romanian artist named Gheorghe Leonida.

At first the statue was going to be of Christ carrying a cross and a globe, but the idea was nixed and instead a statue of Christ the Redeemer with his hands spread out was chosen. The cornerstone was laid in April 1922. The statue was completed and dedicated in October of 1931.
5. Who first said, "Fools rush in where angels fear to tread"?

Answer: Alexander Pope

Alexander Pope put the phrase in his 1711 book "An Essay on Criticism". He meant there are people that will impetuously do something and get into trouble; while there are other people who will think about the situation first before acting.

Fred was a Triton cockatoo that lived with Anthony Vincenzo Baretta in Apartment 2C of the King Edward Hotel. Fred was played by La-La and her trainer was Ray Berwick. When Fred first starred on "Baretta", she was a mynah bird, but Ray showed the "Baretta" producers one of his cockatoos and Beretta's Fred suddenly became a Triton cockatoo. Fred (AKA: La-La) had a stunt double named Harold. When Harold died during season two, Pookie and Flying Sweetheart took over as La-La's stunt doubles.
10. Aviophobia is the fear of what?

Answer: Flying

Aviophobia is the fear of flying. Forty percent of people have aviophobia in the United States and out of that only five percent have aviophobia so severe that they can't get on an airplane.

Tom Bunn runs a program called SOAR that helps people with their aviophobia. He puts aviophobics into two categories: aviophobics afraid to die in a crash and aviophobics who are also claustrophobic. SOAR began in 1982 and met at La Guardia airport in New York, but has since moved away from having meetings at airports. Tom uses three methods to help aviophobics: talk about the fear of flying, teach the mechanics of flying, and work through the anxiety that comes with flying.
