- Tallinn is the home of one-third of all Estonians and is known as the Silicon Valley of Europe.

- Tartu has Pirogov Park, which has become the favorite place for students as it is the only public park in Estonia where light alcoholic beverages are allowed to be consumed. The Gunpowder Cellar at the end of the park is known as the beer restaurant with the highest ceiling in the world. Its 11-meter-high (36 ft.) ceiling is officially in the Guinness Book of World Records.

- Narva is unique for having two historical fortresses facing each other across the river: the 14th-17th century Germanic Order castle and the 15th-century Russian fortress.

- Parnu was first mentioned in 1251 as a member of the Hanseatic League and was successively controlled by the Teutonic Knights, the Poles, the Swedes, and the Russians.

- Kohtla-Jarve contains people of over 40 ethnic groups and only 21% of the population are ethnic Estonians; most of the rest are Russians.
