Edinburgh, the second largest city, is the capital of Scotland. It is known for its castle and also the Edinburgh Tattoo and the Fringe Festival. Glasgow is the largest city and and has the largest population. Situated on the west coast, it was once famous for its shipbuilding.
Dundee is the fourth largest city. It was once known as 'Juteopolis' because of its large amount of jute mills.
Prince William attended the University of St Andrews, which is in Fife. It is also renowned for its golf course. Arbroath is a town on the east coast and is famous for its Smokies, which are smoked haddock. Selkirk is a town and a Royal Burgh which is in the Scottish borders.
Kirkcaldy is in Fife and it is nicknamed 'the Lang Toun', because of the length of its main street. In English, 'Lang Toun' is long town. Dunfermline, which is also in Fife, is one of the eight cities in Scotland. Dumfries is a town which is on the Scottish/English border. Hawick is another town on the Scottish borders.
Paisley is regarded as being the largest town and it was once known for its weaving industry and its paisley pattern. Greenock is also a town and it is situated in the west central lowlands.
Aberdeen, known as the 'Granite City', is situated on the north east coast and is known for its oil industry. It has a three-hundred year history of producing grey granite. It is the third largest city in Scotland.
Luton, Dunstable, Hull and Kirkham are in England. Kilmallock and Kilkenny are in Ireland and Holyhead is in Wales.
