Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Silkl's favorite game is a card game. People are designated North, South, East, and West. The game involves bidding and contracts, and in each hand someone is always a dummy. What is her favorite game?

Answer: Bridge

Bridge uses a standard deck of cards. Partners (North and South vs East and West) work together to decide how many tricks they can take. One player in each hand has to lay his/her cards on the table and let his/her partner play them. That person is the "dummy".
2. BrerSchultzy is also a bit of a card-game fanatic. In fact, the other day, when he got 0 out of 10 on that quiz about Star Wars books, he proudly proclaimed he scored 19 points. From this number alone, what do you think is BrerSchultzy's favorite card game?

Answer: Cribbage

The most points you can get from a single hand in Cribbage during the Show portion of scoring is 29. But there is no possible way to score 19, 25, 26, or 27 points during the Show... veteran players often refer colloquially to a hand scoring zero points as having a score of nineteen. Special thanks to Sir John Suckling for bringing this game to being.
3. As children, most of the Palmetto Players enjoyed a card game that can be played by 2 or more players. The players try to make pairs by finding matching cards from their opponents. When opponents don't have the card, they say the name of the game. What is this game?

Answer: Go Fish

"Go Fish" is also known as "Fish" and "Goldfish". The game has been around since at least 1861, when it was mentioned in a book by August Smith.
4. Ferfer72 loves trivia (obviously!). Her favorite game (in its most common form) involves people moving pieces resembling spoked wheels around a board answering questions to earn wedges. What is her favorite game?

Answer: Trivial Pursuit

Since its original Genus Edition, Trivial Pursuit has become extremely popular. Variations of the game include the Silver Screen Edition, a Star Wars edition, and many more.
5. Poodle78 enjoys playing a game of kings and queens. He moves pawns, bishops, rooks, and knights as well. The object is to trap your opponent's king. What is his game?

Answer: Chess

Chess evolved from an ancient Indian game called chaturanga. Competitive chess started to become popular in 1834. Heavyweight boxing champion Lennox Lewis played chess every day during training for his bouts. He felt it important to keep his mind as engaged as his body.
6. Carolinaboy54 loves puzzles. His favorite involves putting numbers 1 through 9 in squares to make lines across and down with no repeats. What puzzle game does he like?

Answer: Sudoku

Sudoku comes in many levels and has many variations. Newer puzzles involve letters instead of numbers and larger grids.
7. TubaJoe has been known to play a game where he conquers the world. This game involves cards, dice, and armies of game pieces. What does TubaJoe like to play?

Answer: Risk

Risk involves taking armies across the continents until you have conquered all of the other players. Variations include "Risk: Dominate the World" and "Risk: Let the Cat Fight Begin".
8. ADumbledore40 enjoys word games. This game consists of lettered tiles. Each player takes a certain number of the 144 tiles and tries to build a grid of connected words. If a player uses all of their tiles, he says "peel" and every player must take another tile. The game ends when a person has used all of their tiles and there are not enough left for all players to draw a new tile. What game does ADumbledore 40 enjoy?

Answer: Bananagrams

The lettered tiles come in a yellow banana shaped pouch. The game starts with someone yelling "split," and the tiles from which everyone draws is called the "bunch"
9. Eggman 23 really enjoys playing Monopoly. Which group in Monopoly gives you the best return on your investment?

Answer: The orange; St. James, Tennessee, and New York

You may have thought it was Boardwalk and Park Place. There's a card to advance one to Boardwalk and the rents ARE the highest. The orange, though, are easy to hit leaving jail. They are cheap to build up quickly. With hotels, you'll soon be the moneybag.
10. Many of the Palmetto Players enjoy a game where your goal is to get all of your pieces to "home base". You move your pieces according to a roll of the dice, and your opponent can capture your pieces. What do we enjoy playing?

Answer: Backgammon

While no one person invented backgammon, many similar games have been played throughout many centuries. One of these games was found in the tomb of Tutankhamen.
