The metal straw, called a bombilla, acts a straw and filter when drinking the mate. One end of the straw is flattened and contains small holes. This allows liquid to come through and large pieces not to be sucked up. Due to the economy and resources in South America, many artisans are not making as many metal straws but are resorting to cane or bamboo.

Mishkak is skewered meat, rukhal is a thin, round bread, and marak is a vegetable curry.
