In Greek mythology, Ouranos (also spelled Uranus) was the primordial personification of the sky, and Gaia was his consort and the personification of the Earth. Together, they were the parents of various beings, including the Titans, Cyclopes, the Fates, Tityus, and the Hecatoncheires (Hundred-Handed Ones). While the genealogy of the family can be complicated and interwoven, the Titans represent the second group of divine beings in the cosmos of Greek mythology.
The group of Titans include the twelve offspring of Ouranos and Gaia. These are Oceanus, Tethys, Iapetus, Themis, Krios, Kronos, Rhea, Phoebe, Mnemosyne, Hyperion, Theia, and Koios (sometimes called Polos). These beings played interestingly crucial roles in the early cosmogony and the subsequent Titanomachy, a conflict that arose when Kronos, the youngest Titan, overthrew his father Ouranos with the aid of his mother Gaia. The Titans ruled the cosmos until they, themselves, were overthrown by the next generation of gods, the Olympians, led by Zeus, himself son of two of the Titans - Kronos and Rhea.
Also included amongst the Titans are Prometheus, Epimetheus, Atlas, and Menoetius, the offspring of Iapetus. While they are not immediate descendants of Ouranos and Gaia, they still came before the Olympians and are considered part of the Titans as a result. Also, they sided with the Titans during the Titanomachy, the war between the original Titans and those who became the Olympic gods.
Despite their defeat, the Titans continued to be significant forces in the mythological landscape, with some being condemned to eternal punishments or assuming roles as cosmic entities. The Titans' stories and interactions with the Olympians contribute to the rich tapestry of Greek mythology, embodying elemental forces and aspects of the natural world.
Of the incorrect answers, they are all characters from Greek mythology as well. Andromeda was a Princess of Ethiopia who eventually became the wife of Perseus, her saviour. She was, in fact, the great-grandmother of Herakles, the mortal son of Zeus who gained immortality. Tantalos was the son of Zeus and Plouto, a nymph who was given the punishment of eternal torment. Aegeas was a legendary king of Athens and the father of Theseus, while Ariadne was the daughter of Minos II who helped Theseus slay the Minotaur. Lycastus was Ariadne's grandfather, father of Minos II. Europa was a Phoenician princess and Pittheus was the king of Troezen.
