Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Isaac Morris

Isaac Morris was murdered before the events of the novel began. He was a known drug dealer whom Wargrave held responsible for the death of a friend who was an addict. Wargrave convinced Morris to help with the finances of his plan and Morris even recorded the gramophone reading. Wargrave poisoned Morris to hide the truth and also because Wargrave was obsessed with needing ten victims, himself not included.
2. Anthony Marston

Anthony Marston was a reckless young man who killed two children while speeding on a country road. He received a slap on the wrist because he was well connected because of his wealthy father and his friends who lied for him in court. He is murdered on the very first night shortly after the gramophone reading.

After the chaos that ensued, Wargrave was easily able to slip poison into his drink.
3. Ethel Rogers

Ethel Rogers was the housekeeper on Soldier Island. Like Marston, she is murdered on the first night. While everyone was shocked at Marston's sudden death and the gramophone recording, Wargrave was able to slip something to Mrs. Rogers who fainted from the shock.

She died during the night between the first and second days. Along with her husband, Mrs. Rogers was accused of withholding medication from her wealthy employer who then died, leaving them an inheritance.
4. General MacArthur

General MacArthur dies on the second day on the island. While everyone else was suspicious of their missing host, MacArthur realized the inevitable, that they would all die on the island. The general spent most of the day by himself resigned to his fate, which made him an easy target.

He was coshed on the back of the head with an unknown object speculated to be a life preserver. MacArthur was accused of sending his wife's lover on a war mission during which he was certain to perish for the specific reason of knowing he would die.
5. Thomas Rogers

Thomas Rogers was the butler on Soldier Island. Because of his status as the servant, he was often left alone and refused to break class distinctions for any reason. He was murdered early in the morning on the third day while chopping wood. He was hit with a hatchet and his body was found in the woodshed.
6. Emily Brent

Emily Brent is a middle-aged spinster who is found dead shortly after Rogers was killed. She was injected with poison meant to look like a bee sting. Miss Brent was accused of causing the death of her young maid, Beatrice Taylor, who fell pregnant out of wedlock and committed suicide when Miss Brent threw her out of her home.
7. Dr. Armstrong

Although Justice Wargrave was believed to have died on the third evening, he was actually faking his death. He did so to trick Dr. Armstrong into trusting him. During the night between the third and final days, Wargrave pushed Armstrong into the ocean, killing him. Armstrong's body is not discovered until after Blore is killed but he died before him. Armstrong was accused of causing the death of a patient whom he operated on while intoxicated.
8. William Blore

William Blore died in the afternoon on the final day. Along with Lombard and Vera, Blore left the house but unlike the others, he returned to find food. While separated from the others, his head was crushed by a bear clock. Blore was accused of committing perjury to sentence an innocent man to prison where the man died shortly afterward.
9. Philip Lombard

Vera shot Lombard shortly after Blore was murdered and Armstrong's body was found on the final day. In a standoff, both Lombard and Vera believed the other was U.N. Owen. Vera got the better of Lombard and grabbed his gun and shot him. Lombard was accused of murdering 21 men of an East African tribe by stealing their food and letting them starve in desolate conditions.
10. Vera Claythorne

Vera Claythorne hanged herself shortly after she shot Lombard. Vera believed she was the last person remaining on the island and by that time, her mental state was not good. She began having delusions about Hugo, her former fiancé, and hanged herself. Vera was accused of murdering Cyril Hamilton, Hugo's nephew who was the heir to the estate. Vera allowed Cyril to swim out too far into the ocean and then pretended to save him when he began drowning.
11. Justice Wargrave

Justice Wargrave faked his death on the third day but was actually the last person alive. He was the mastermind behind the murders, and he sought justice against people who committed crimes the law could not prosecute. After revealing himself to the reader, Wargrave pens a confession and sends it out in a bottle before committing suicide in such a way that it lines up with the way he faked his death: with a gunshot to the forehead.
