Madam Octa, now not being controlled, bites Steve, putting him into a coma-like state.

When Darren agrees to the terms, Larten "bloods" Darren, and cures Steve. Darren soon runs away from what he has become, but it's too late. He couldn't settle his vampiric urges, leading to him coming back to Larten.
