Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Dawn wanted to write her book as a memoir rather than an autobiography as the latter meant she would have to be precise about chronology and touch on all aspects of her "quite-dull-in-parts" life. Which of these did she not describe as a dull part of her life?

Answer: Slipping on a banana skin

Dawn described the dull parts of her life in the opening pages of her book and straight away you can see the comedienne in her shining through. At least I hope she was only joking when she referred to "putting a gun in a kitten's mouth!"
2. Dawn dedicated her memoirs to which family member?

Answer: Father

Her father was a member of the RAF and Dawn spent most of her young life staying whereever he was stationed at places such as Anglesey in Wales, Leconfield in Yorkshire, Faldingworth in Lincolnshire and Cyprus. He sadly took his own life after a history of severe depression when Dawn was 19 years old.
3. Dawn describes in detail about living as a child on a Royal Air Force base, and the time when which member of the royal family visited?

Answer: The Queen Mother

The Queen Mother visited RAF Leconfield in Yorkshire when Dawn was about four years old. Dawn can remember being "taught how to curtsey, speak only when spoken to and to call the Queen Mother M'am (rhymes with Spam) and not M'arm (rhymes with farm)".
4. Dawn describes in her book about the close relationship she has with her husband, Lenny Henry, and the heartbreak of trying for a family, of endless IVF failures, miscarriages and then an uphill adoption process. What is the name of Dawn and Lenny's adopted daughter?

In the book Dawn thanks Lenny for so many things and the love between them shines through the pages. He often gives her love letters, poetry and cards to celebrate their life together and she also talks about his strength of character dealing with the amount of racism he encounters.
5. Dawn and Lenny put their house up as collateral to get a loan to start which clothes shop catering for the larger sized lady?

Answer: Sixteen 47

Dawn opened the shop in 1991 with her partner, Helen Teague. It was named from the statistic that 47% of the British female population are size 16 or over. In her book Dawn claims that "the shop is still chugging away providing big girls with some decent clobber that fits their bootylicious bums!".
6. Dawn said working on 'The Vicar of Dibley' for thirteen years was "the most fun I've ever had" and got very excited when they filmed in the small village of Turville under the shadow of a windmill on the hill. Why was she so excited?

Answer: It is where they filmed "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang"

Dawn mentions about the fun she had filming the series including the time she got plastered in gooey chocolate custard when they filmed the chocolate fountain episode. She had a shower afterward and by the time she came out everyone else had left and she got locked inside Pinewood Studios.
7. What was the name of the first television show French and Saunders performed along with Rik Mayall, Adrian Edmondson, Nigel Planer and Peter Richardson?

Answer: Comic Strip Presents

'Comic Strip Presents...' aired on television for the first time in 1982 and the first episode was 'Five Go Mad In Dorset' which was a parody of The Famous Five.
