2. Now you read the story of three people who decide to make money out of blackmail and end up playing hide and seek with the CIA. The story is set up in "Trumble" for the most part and Ricky and Percy are important characters. Which book are you reading?

Answer: The Brethren

Following the success of "The Firm", John Grisham retired from his job as a lawyer to be a full-time writer. His books are sold all over the world now and they are all bestsellers.
3. For once, the lawyers are not leading the game. Someone in the jury is playing a nasty little game to take a revenge against big tobacco companies. There are characters like Nicholas Easter, Fitch and a mysterious girl.

Answer: The Runaway Jury

This book was published in 1996. In "The Runaway Jury" you find John Grisham's talent at its best: he's very good, I'd even say the best, to describe manipulation. And as always the reader is so taken in that he can't even figure out, where all this is going until the very last lines.
4. This one is the first book ever written by John Grisham. A lawyer has to fight hard to defend his client as the K.K.K. won't let Carl Lee Hailey go home a free man. This book was later turned into a very good movie starring Sandra Bullock, Samuel L. Jackson and Matthew McConaughey.

Answer: A Time to Kill

John Grisham graduated from law school in 1981 and practiced in his own law firm for nine years. The idea of the book came in 1984 as he was watching a young girl testifying against the man who had raped her, he started to imagine what he would have done, had he been the girl's father...
5. Take a very clever law student, Darby Shaw, who decides to dig into the circumstances of two Supreme Court Judges' deaths. When she finally discovers the truth, she shows her work to the wrong people and now her little brief can get her killed...

Answer: The Pelican Brief

This book too was turned into a movie with Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington. "The Pelican brief" was published after "The Firm".
6. One of his most fascinating story is that of a young lawyer who comes to Mississippi to help his unknown grand-father avoid death penalty. But it's not that easy to defend someone you don't know... And when you come to know him, it is even harder because all this man seems to deserve is death.

Answer: The Chamber

John Grisham never had a client convicted of capital murder, never had to go to death row so he asked other lawyers to help him with this book.
7. The main story takes place in the Pantanal, in the jungle between Bolivia and Brazil. Nate O'Riley has to find Rachel Lane because she has just inherited eleven billion dollars from her father. But what would a missionary do with so much money while all she needs is God?

Answer: The Testament

This book is quite different from John Grisham's previous books but very good anyway. If you read it and liked it then maybe you would like to take the quiz I made on "The Testament".
8. No courtroom, no lawyer, no big case to try. It is just the story of a young boy, Luke Chandler, and his life in rural Arkansas, which is shared between work in the cotton fields and his admiration for the Saint-Louis Cardinals.

Answer: A Painted House

This story is inspired by John Grisham's own childhood in Arkansas. He lives with his wife, Renee, and his two children in Virginia and Mississippi as of 2003.
9. "A child holds a secret that the mob would kill for", that's what the subtitle says. Mark Sway is the only person who knows where the dead body of the US State Senator Boyette is. With the help of his lawyer, Reggie Love, he will try to live long enough to save his family.

Answer: The Client

It's John Grisham's fourth book and it's just as excellent as all the others. The movie is quite good too and if you haven't seen it yet then you should try it.
10. When a young lawyer, Mitchell Y. McDeere, got the job of his dream in a well-respected law firm in Memphis, he couldn't have imagined that he would have to struggle for his life. Too many people died in suspicious circumstances in this firm, and it looks like Mitch is the next on the list.

Answer: The Firm

Even though "A Time to Kill" is the first book ever written by John Grisham, "The Firm" is the one the public read first. It quickly became a bestseller and it is thanks to this book that John Grisham became known world wide.
