Having been a part of a deal to sell a top secret surveillance system to the highest bidder, he is believed to be too dangerous to be kept alive. Numerous agencies come after him in an attempt to kill him, and he has to stay one step ahead, in order to stay alive.

A young black man is falsely accused of murdering a cheerleader at the school they both attend. With his execution just days away, the actually killer comes forward with the truth. She delivers her findings to her law professor, who ends up being killed. Before his death, he shows the brief to an FBI agent, who is also killed.

This novel was made into a film released in 1993, and starred Denzel Washington and Julia Roberts.
