1. What is the name of the nurse in Ernest Hemingway's "A Farewell To Arms"?

Answer: Catherine Barkley

The American soldier, Frederic Henry, and the English nurse, Catherine Barkley, liked each other when they first met. After Henry got wounded in battle and was sent to the hospital, they fell in love head over heels. Catherine and Henry spend so much time together that Catherine became pregnant. She died in childbirth.
2. Which of these IS an Agatha Christie novel?

Answer: Dead Man's Folly

The other three choices were written by Lynn McMahon Anstead.

"Dead Man's Folly" is about the murder of 14 year old Girl Guide (Girl Scout) and Hercule Poirot's investigation. There seems very little, if any, motive for the murder. However, Sir Stubbs murdered his wife Lady Hattie, and the girl saw it, so she had to be put out of the way.
3. What was the name of the man that Tom Joad met in John Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath"?

Answer: Jim Casy

The other three choices are from George Orwell books.

Jim Casy was a former preacher who also went with the Joad family on their trek to California. Later in the trip, Tom hit a policeman. Casy took the blame because he felt he had nothing to live for, while Tom had everything to live for.

Answer: Atticus Finch

Atticus Finch is a lawyer who defended a black man unjustly accused of raping a white woman. Atticus Finch's children are Jeremy, known as Jem, and Jean Louise, known as Scout.
5. In Charlotte Bronte's "Jane Eyre", who was the man she would eventually marry?

Answer: Edward Rochester

Jane Eyre was an orphan who survived a terrible childhood and went on to become the governess at a huge estate. She fell in love with the owner of the estate, Edward Rochester. After some strange occurrences and a year's separation, they got married.
6. What was the name of the captain in Herman Melville's "Moby Dick"?

Answer: Ahab

Captain Ahab's leg was bitten off by a white whale named Moby Dick. Ever since, Ahab persevered in trying to kill Moby. The narrator of the book is a sailor named Ishmael. At the end of the book, all the crew, including Ahab, get shipwrecked and die. Only Ishmael survived.
7. In Charles Dickens' "Great Expectations", what does Philip Pirrip call himself?

Answer: Pip

Philip Pirrip couldn't pronounce his name as a child, so he called himself "Pip" and the name stuck. Pip, as we will call him, was an orphan who lived with his older sister and her husband. When he got older, he went to stay with old Miss Havisham, and instantly fell in love with her daughter Stella Havisham.
8. Regarding "The Picture of Dorian Gray", which character is an artist?

Answer: Basil Hallward

Hallward painted the picture that started the whole mess of Dorian selling his soul to the devil in order to stay young forever. Basically, Dorian was so enthralled by the portrait that Hallward drew, that he dreaded becoming old. So he made a pact with the devil to stay young forever while the painting aged. Around two decades later, Dorian regretted the pact and murdered Hallward, even though he really had nothing to do with it.
9. In regard to "Anna Karenina" by Leo Tolstoy, Constantine Levin married which Sherbatsky daughter?

Answer: Kitty

Count Vronsky was also courting Kitty, and he was the one she thought she loved. After Vronsky proved unfaithful, going after Anna Karenina, Kitty's love turned to Levin and they married. Their marriage was very happy, and they even had a son.
10. What's the name of Jo's best friend in Louisa May Alcott's "Little Women"?

Answer: Laurie

They started out as friends, but as they got older, Laurie started showing interest in marrying Jo. He proposed, but Jo turned him down, saying she wasn't right for him. Laurie ended up marrying Jo's youngest sister Amy. Still, Jo and Laurie remained good friends.
