Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. King T'Challa, the first Black Panther, is lost under which circumstances?

Answer: He passes away due to illness

As Princess Shuri heads into the lab she prays to Bast to save her brother's life. Unfortunately, King T'Challa is unable to overcome his terminal illness despite Shuri's attempts to save him. She, Queen Ramonda, and the people of Wakanda have no choice but to accept that T'Challa has joined the ancestors. The celebrate his life in a ceremony befitting the Wakandan leader...but life must go on.

One year later, in Ansongo, Mali, at a Wakandan Outreach Center, a laboratory is assaulted by terrorists. Fortunately, the Dora Milaje are already there, waiting. It's proof that a U.N. member state is already seeking out the rare material.

Queen Ramonda joins the United Nations in Geneva the following day and is placed under intense scrutiny. While Wakanda has always had a policy never to share their vibranium stockpiles, other nations worry that the material poses a threat to international security. Ramonda is blunt with the other nations-- vibranium is not dangerous; it is other possessors of it who are dangerous. She has the assaulters paraded in front of the U.N. as she announces that further attacks will be considered an act of aggression. The King may be dead, but Wakanda is still able to protect its resources.
2. When the U.S. Navy is attacked by Namor and his forces, where are they?

Answer: In the middle of the ocean

In the Atlantic Ocean, aboard a U.S. Navy vessel, the CIA locates a one-in-a-million vibranium deposit deep on the ocean floor. As a submersible heads down to the depths to find a destroyed drill, two scientists locate what they came to find. Just as they do, however, the power goes out on the rig and the sea floor is plunged into near-darkness. As something swims by, one of the scientists vanishes, severed from his support line. Soon after, the other scientist loses contact.

Outside, a siren's song appears to hypnotize the soldiers on the ship, persuading them to walk over the balconies and into the ocean. The beings in the water storm the ship soon after, attacking the remaining soldiers onboard. Though a helicopter is able to take off with the only survivors, it's grabbed from the sky and tossed into the water. The only info that can get off the ship-- they're blue, and they're not Wakandans.

As Ramonda returns to Wakanda she reunites with Shuri in the lab. While Ramonda seeks a way to recreate the Heart-Shaped Herb, Shuri aims to create new technologies to better-equip the fighters of their nation. Shuri does not wish to recreate the herb, she says, as the Black Panther name and mantle is a relic. Ramonda tells her daughter, later, that they must move forward. T'Challa is a year passed, but he is not gone.
3. Namor bequeaths Queen Ramonda and Shuri with which of these, needed to signal him when they capture the scientist he seeks?

Answer: A conch

Ramonda brings Shuri into the wilderness with the intent to help her heal from the grief that she still possesses. Commencing a ritual, she says that she found T'Challa in the breeze around her. It took time, but he was there. As Ramonda prepares to burn T'Challa's funeral garb, Shuri suggests that if she thinks on her brother too much, it's the world that she'll burn instead.

Ramonda makes motions to tell her daughter something about T'Challa, but the two are interrupted by the appearance of K'uk'ulkan, who introduces himself as Namor. He explains that the Americans have used a vibranium detector to find a deposit of the mineral in his territory beneath the sea. He blames T'Challa, he says, for exposing its existence to the world and compromising his peoples' safety. He insists that Wakanda should help solve his problem. If they find the scientist responsible for the detector and relinquish him to his custody, then all is well. If they don't, he and his army will attack their nation. With their numbers, he says, he's assured he will win. He did, after all, bypass their tight security on his own. Before retreating, he leaves Ramonda and Shuri with a conch, telling them to blow on it and place it into the water when they have who he's looking for.

Ramonda has the council convene in her chambers to determine a course of action. As they determine the efficacy of the vibranium detector (which works brilliantly), Okoye suggests that she leave Wakanda to execute a plan, and to do so she will need Shuri out in the field. It might be exactly what Shuri needs. Before long, they head to Alexandria, Virginia to convene with Everett Ross. He has the answers they're looking for.
4. Riri Williams, who created the vibranium detector, is found at MIT. Which of these is she?

Answer: A student

When Shuri and Okoye locate Agent Ross, he's hesitant to tell them anything, especially since there's a new director at the CIA watching him like a hawk. The catch is that the U.S. needs vibranium, and a new detector, quite fast, and there's only one person who knows how to build it-- a young woman by the name of Riri Williams who happens to be a student at MIT. The pair head to Cambridge, Massachusetts to intercept her.

Shuri approaches Riri in her dorm and is recognized immediately. With Okoye lurking close behind, the two manage to convince Riri to skip her next class and come to safety, travelling to a garage along the way to collect a work laptop. Unfortunately for them, while Namor doesn't come looking in Cambridge, the FBI do, and once they're surrounded they need to find a way to split up and get out of the city. Shuri and Okoye leave in vehicles, but Riri leaves in her own Iron Man-style suit, taking off into the air.

The chase leads the trio out across Cambridge and towards Boston where they're able to evade the FBI, but get caught out by Namor crossing the bridge. His forces harpoon Riri out of the sky and put an end to the others' vehicles in short order. Okoye fights the contingent valiantly, but she's unable to stop the princess and the scientist from being taken hostage, alive, back to Namora.

The next day, Agent Ross is brought to the bridge to meet with Director de Fontaine, his ex-wife. After surveying the fight scene, she asks him to give her a ride back to headquarters. It's an eight hour ride, but they have plenty to talk about.
5. To save themselves, Namor's people prayed to which of these Gods, who gave them the gift of surviving in the sea?

Answer: Chaac

When Okoye returns to Wakanda alone, Queen Ramonda chastises her for losing Shuri and she strips her of her power as general of the Dora Milaje. She attempts to track Shuri through her beads, not knowing that they're in Agent Ross' possession, having been claimed from the crime scene on the bridge. She contacts Ross through the beads and finds, at the very least, that he tried to help her daughter. Shuri's earrings point in a better direction, towards the North Atlantic, but the people who took her spoke Yucatec Mayan.

Ramonda instead heads to Cap-Haďtien, Haiti to find Nakia who, since the Blip, has been acting as headmistress at a private academy. Ramonda informs her that Shuri has been taken and she might be the only person who can slip into Namor's city unnoticed. Heading onward to the Yucatán Peninsula, Nakia seeks out information about a man with winged feet, the K'uk'ulkan. She's warned, however, that many who search for him never return, being lost to the depths.

Shuri and Riri find themselves under watchful eyes as they're kept in a cavernous lair. Shuri, offered traditional garb, is brought before Namor and she determines that he may have been alive for hundreds of years.

The truth is that in 1571 AD in Zamá, Yucatán, his people were driven from their homes by the Spanish. Facing fate, they called upon their god of rain, Chaac, and Chaac gave their people a plant that could save them. As his people fell sick, their lives changed forever. The plant took away their ability to breathe air, but allowed them to breathe in the sea. Namor would become the firstborn son of the Talokan-- a mutant capable of living in the sea and the sky. When his mother passed, he followed through on a promise to bury her on land, but the Spanish, having enslaved the people of the land, believed him to be a demon. It began his hatred for the surface world and it's why he couldn't let the scientist live.
6. Shuri is the first person from the surface to visit the city of Talokan.

Answer: True

Namor brings Shuri deeper beneath the sea in a submersible suit, offering her the chance to see the home of his people, and what she finds is the massive, undersea city of Talokan comprised intricate structures, all made of vibranium. While there, Namor reminds Shuri that he has his people to protect, and the vibranium detector is the first sign of the forces that can and will encroach on his people's world yet again. He tells her that despite her insistence that she can protect Riri, there is no in-between; either she can side with his people or she's an enemy.

On the surface, Ross is called to speak before the CIA regarding the issue with Wakanda and the missing scientist and he expresses that he believes there is an unknown party factoring into the equation. If the United States makes attempts to destabilize Wakanda, then they risk bringing on the wrath of a force they don't known the extent of.

Nakia is able to locate Shuri's whereabouts and find Namor's cavern near Curral Velho, Cape Verde. It's there that Namor speaks to Queen Ramonda and threatens her-- if anyone comes to his city, he will kill Princess Shuri and then he will come to Wakanda himself to kill her. While Ramonda speaks to Namor, Nakia infiltrates the cave and saves both Shuri and Riri, bringing them to the surface and taking them back to Wakanda. Unfortunately, Nakia deals a lethal shot to one of Namor's people, and it's the last straw. He readies the people of Talokan and informs them that they will head to war. Wakanda will fall under his army.
7. When Namor's army attacks Wakanda, who is killed in the ensuing battle?

Answer: Queen Ramonda

When Shuri and the others return to Wakanda they fortify the sonic barriers and prepare for the inevitable. Ramonda brings Riri through the palace, but Riri isn't comfortable. She expresses that she would like to go home, but she knows she can't. While Nakia and Okoye talk about T'Challa outside, they see flooding in the streets and quickly realize that they're under attack. Shuri provides support from the air and Ramonda uses Riri's help to command from the throne room, but Namor's army is successful in infiltrating and fighting in both water and air. The Wakandans throw everything they can at the battle and many escape into the nearby mountains, but the city, for all intents, falls.

As Namor brings down Shuri's plane, he heads to the throne room in pursuit of Riri, tossing water grenades through the windows and sending them, unconscious, into the flooded depths of the palace. Ramonda awakens in time to grab Riri and swim her to the surface, but drowns during her ascent through the water. As the others come to find her body and revive Riri, Namor warns them that he will return in one week's time with his entire army. His ultimatum: they will join him at war against the rest of Earth or he will wash Wakanda off of it. Shuri runs into the throne room to find what remains and Namor informs her that she is now the queen before departing.
8. When Shuri synthesizes the Heart-Shaped Herb and ingests it, she arrives on the Ancestral Plane. Who does she find waiting for her there?

Answer: Killmonger

Ross awakens to find that De Fontaine is in his home. She alerts him to the news-- Queen Ramonda is dead-- and worse, she knows about the beads as she bugged them before he even arrived at the crime scene in Boston. She has no choice but to arrest him for his treasonous call.

After her mother's funeral, Shuri returns to the lab and contemplates her next steps. Finding a bracelet that Namor gifted her during her visit to his city, she realizes that its components-- the plant that Chaac gifted his people amongst them-- are of great use to her. Using her equipment, she assesses whether or not the materials in the bracelet are similar to the Heart-Shaped Herb. Sure enough, there are strong similarities.

She also discusses Namor with Riri, using her mind to combine their efforts, and what they both determine is that Namor gathers power from the water, perhaps through diffusion. If they can dry him out, they might have a better chance at defeating him. Shuri has Riri convert one of her ships into a pervaporation chamber while she calls back Okoye, bestowing upon her a new spear and a new outfit, calling her the Midnight Angel.

And most improbably, though most fortunately, Shuri is able to synthesize and print a working version of the Heart-Shaped Herb. Nakia, watching on, tells her that she can restore Wakanda's protector with it. With Nakia and Riri by her side, she ingests the herb and awaits transport to the Ancestral Plane.

...And it works, allowing her to surface in another realm. But who she finds there isn't who she expects-- Killmonger waits for her in her mother's throne. She admits she never believed the Ancestral Plane was real, but she took the herb to be strong, and that's likely why he appeared before her instead of her mother or T'Challa.

When Shuri emerges from the Ancestral Plane, she lies and claims she didn't receive the powers, but it's quickly apparent she did. It's why she dons the Black Panther suit and goes before her people.
9. Shuri ultimately battles with Namor alone, bringing him to a desert island. What is the result of the fight?

Answer: Shuri forces Namor to yield

Shuri rejoins her people in their mountain hiding place adorned in the new Black Panther outfit, appearing to them as their new protector. The council listens to her as she speaks and they trust in her assessment-- it's their time to strike now that they have a new protector. In fact, they'll bring Namor to them at a distant location at sea.

The next day, Shuri and her strongest warriors leave for battle. Along the way, Nakia asks her who she saw in the Ancestral Realm. It doesn't take an actual answer, but Nakia warns that if she goes to war for vengeance, then the hole left from her mother's loss will consume her.

Shuri's plan works as well, as a second vibranium detector is placed in the Atlantic and Namor and his people are lured to them. Using her ship, as planned, she's able to capture Namor and effectively dry him out, rendering him less effective in battle. While Riri and the Dora Milaje fight Namor's warriors on their battle craft and Okoye, adorned in her Midnight Angel suit, gets the advantage, Shuri takes Namor to the nearest desert island, crash-landing there as Namor tears at the ship with his spear. Shuri is able to claw away at his winged feet and get the upper hand, but he manages to spear her to a rock. As he stumbles to the nearby sea to regenerate, Shuri frees herself and blasts him with the jets of her ruined ship, leaving him in the sand to die.

But as she walks away, she has a vision of her mother and recalls the beauty of both of their home cities. Following her mother's words, she tells Namor to yield. Wakanda will protect the oceans and his secrets. As Namor yields, the fight ends for both sides.
10. As a gift, Shuri lets Riri leave Wakanda with which of these?

Answer: Her father's car, restored

When the battle ends, the Wakandans are able to return home to their city to commence rebuilding. Shuri plants her synthesized Heart-Shaped Herbs in the forest, ensuring a future for the Black Panther lineage. She reunites with Riri in the lab to say goodbye and says that while Riri can finally return home, she will need to leave her battle suit behind. She will, however, be able to give her back her dad's car, restored after it was pulled from the river in Boston.

At the waterfalls, M'Baku, the leader of the Jabari tribe, challenges for the throne. Princess Shuri does not attend.

At his home, Namor is criticized for not bringing down the Wakandans. Namor doesn't feel this is a bad thing, however. The Black Panther is the most powerful person in the most powerful nation in the world. With their favour, Talokan will be stronger than ever.

Ross, en route to prison, is transported in the back of an unmarked van. Fortunately, he's freed from captivity by Okoye, dressed in her Midnight Angel outfit.

In Haiti, Shuri joins Nakia in finally saying goodbye to her mother by burning her funerary robes on the beach. As she remembers Queen Ramonda and T'Challa, she lets herself cry.
