Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What made Tom and Barry especially unique?

Answer: They were conjoined twins

Tom and Barry were conjoined twins. Specifically called Omphalopagus twins, they were connected at the abdomen and shared a liver.

The actors portraying Tom and Barry were not really conjoined, but spent hours a day in a harness to get the "feel" of being a conjoined twin. They even slept in the same bed or showered harnessed together every so often!
2. Where did Tom and Barry have to go?

Answer: London

The seventeen-year-olds were given by their dad to a man who promised that Tom and Barry would find work. So Tom and Barry were pretty much forced to leave their small, country, isolated home with a man named Henry Couling.

Actors - and identical twins - Luke Treadaway and Harry Treadaway were nineteen when the film was made, and finishing up their second year at drama school.
3. What set this film apart from most others made?

Answer: It was a fake documentary

This movie was done in documentary-format. Documentaries are people talking about real-life events, and in some parts, have actors portray what really happened. This movie was exactly like a documentary EXCEPT that it never really happened (some people call this type of film a "mock-umentary" or a "faux documentary"). Tom and Barry never existed.
4. What was the twins' sister named?

Answer: Roberta

Roberta was often shown talking in this film, explaining what her brothers were really like. You found out their history through her, about their childhood and such.

Their sister was played by actress Jane Horrocks, of "Corpse Bride" fame.
5. What did Barry do in the band?

Answer: Sing

Barry was originally supposed to learn to play the guitar. But stubborn Barry refused to learn how to play, so he started to sing lead for all their songs.

When actors Luke Treadaway and Harry Treadaway were first cast, the roles of Tom and Barry were not given right away - the directors assigned the roles of Barry to Luke and Tom to Harry further into production.
6. What was the band called that Tom and Barry were a part of?

Answer: The Bang Bang

The band was called "The Bang Bang". They even had a song which frequently put the lyrics "bang bang!" in it. The band consisted of Tom, Barry, Tubs, Spitz, and Paul Day.

Many of the cast members already had experience in music. Nicholas Millard (Tubs) and Steven Eagles (Spitz) were in the band Crackout before they got their roles in the film, and Luke Treadaway and Harry Treadaway's band, Lizard Sun, had disbanded only a few years before.
7. Who wrote the letter to the surgeon?

Answer: No one knew

Someone wrote a letter to a surgeon, inquiring about a separation. They signed it as "Laura Ashworth". However, Laura claimed to have nothing to do with it, and no one else owned up to it. Common theory said that it was the "other" head, but no one really knows.
8. What song played over the opening credits?

Answer: Doola and Dawla

Clive Langer wrote most of the music for the film. He was the guitarist in the popular British cult band, Deaf School, in the 1970s, and he also composed the music for "High Fidelity" (2000). He worked in several music departments in many other films.

All songs were written by Mr. Langer with the exception of "Sink or Swim", which was written by none other than Harry Treadaway (Tom).
9. Who played author Brian Aldiss?

Answer: James Greene

Author Brian Aldiss (born in 1925) was known for his science-fiction novels and short stories. He wrote many other books such as "Earthworks", The "Helliconia" Trilogy, and "Brothers of the Head".

Mr. Aldiss was set to make an appearance in the film as himself, but was replaced by actor James Greene at the last minute.
10. What happened to Tom and Barry at the end of the movie?

Answer: They died

Tom and Barry wound up getting in a very big fight, and got sent back to their home, The Head. One day, alone in their room, they killed themselves with a knife. The fact that they would die was very present in the entire film, as Tom and Barry both were always referred to in past-tense.
