Merida's father, Fergus, was an archer. When she was younger, Fergus gave Merida a bow her size so she could start practicing archery. The first time she shot an arrow it came up short. The second time she shot an arrow it went too far. While looking for the arrow, Merida saw the wisps for the first time.

Merida had triplet brothers who were younger than she was. They were named Hamish, Hubert, and Harris and they had hair the same color and curliness as their sister. Merida said they could get away with murder. Throughout the movie, the triplets were seen stealing food and causing mayhem in the palace.

Everyone gathered in the main room so the suitors could introduce themselves. Clan Macintosh was first, then Clan MacGuffin, then Clan Dingwall. Merida learned that these three clans brought their first born child to compete for Merida's hand. When Merida learned that the first born could compete, she chose archery as the competition and set her plan in motion.

The young man from Clan Macintosh didn't even get close to the target and threw a tantrum. Clan Dingwall hit center target. Clan MacGuffin's arrow went too high. Since Merida was the first born of her clan, she played in the competition, much to her mother's chagrin.

When Merida won the competition, Elinor threw a fit and tossed Merida's bow into the fire. After seeing this, Merida ran away.

When Merida ran away she stumbled upon the cottage of a witch/woodcarver. When Merida asked for help to change her mother's mind about marriage, the witch put a spell in a cake. Merida left before the witch/woodcarver could remember what else she was supposed to tell Merida about the spell.

Merida believed the spell would change her mother's mind about an arranged marriage. Instead, the spell changed her mother into a bear. Merida took her mother back to the witch/woodcarver's cottage, but the witch/woodcarver left Merida with message that she would not be back until the spring.

Answer: Mor'du

Mor'du was seen in the beginning of the movie when he took the leg of Merida's father, Fergus. He later attacked Merida and her mother. Merida realizes that Mor'du was the prince told in the legend she heard as a child. After two sunrises, the prince was permanently changed into Mor'du. Elinor killed Mor'du by forcing him to run into standing stones that fell and crushed him.

After his death, the prince's spirit wordlessly thanked Merida and Elinor before changing into a wisp.

For the boys helping Merida get their mother out the castle while she was a bear, Merida told them they could have anything they wanted to eat in the kitchen. The boys went toward the cake that was meant for their mother. They weren't seen again until much later when Merida's father locked her in a room to keep her safe. As baby bears, the boys helped Merida escape the locked room.

Merida was going to accept a marriage proposal when her mother (as a bear) told her not to accept, but to tell the clans she was going to follow her heart about who she wanted to marry. All three boys from the clans decided as well that they didn't want an arranged marriage. They, like Merida, wanted to follow their heart and decide for themselves who they were going to marry.

During Merida and Elinor's fight about Merida's marriage, Merida ripped the family tapestry in two. When the witch/woodcarver told Merida to 'mend the bond, torn by pride', Merida took it literally and mended the tapestry. At the second sunrise, Merida threw the repaired tapestry over her mother hoping it would turn her back into a human.

When it didn't work, Merida hugged her mother, cried, and apologized for everything that had happened. Merida's apology changed Elinor and the triplets back into their human form.
