Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Dick Morrison (James Woods) has been encouraged to quit smoking by a friend. He has been referred to an organization called, "Quitter's Inc." What other organization does Dick mention, before getting out of the car?

Answer: CIA

Dick jokingly asks his friend, whether this is a quit-smoking clinic or the CIA? He asks this question, after his friend states that it's against the rules for anyone to accompany him to the office.
2. Dr. Donatti invites Dick into his office. After some cursory questions, Dr. Donatti asks if Dick has any cigarettes with him. Dick hands his pack of cigarettes over. What does Dr. Donatti do with the cigarettes?

Answer: He arranges them on his desk and smashes them with great vigor.

With a great deal of flair and vigor, Dr. Donatti (Alan King) proceeds to smash and mangle the cigarettes into pieces and then sweeps the remains into his desk drawer. Dr. Donatti goes on to explain that their methods are rather radical. He says the fallback rate for reformed smokers is greater than the fallback rate for heroin addicts.
3. Dr. Donatti demonstrates one of the techniques, that they employ to discourage smoking. He reveals a room, with a grated floor. Dr. Donatti presses a button and the floor becomes electrified. What does Dr. Donatti say will happen, upon the first violation of the no smoking policy?

Answer: Dick's wife will be placed in the "cat room."

Dr. Donatti shows Dick a room with an electrified floor. Inside, there is a cat, casually drinking some water. The music begins, "Twist and Shout," and the cat immediately reacts. The electricity in the floor is turned on and the cat haplessly jumps around the cage, trying to avoid the shock. Dr. Donatti says, "If you smoke, they will see you." Dick replies, "You'll bring me down here and stick me in the old cat room, I suppose." Dr. Donatti says, "No, we'll bring your wife down here and stick her in the cat room. You get to watch."
4. Dick has avoided great temptation, not having smoked a cigarette for over two weeks. Finally, he succumbs to the temptation. Where does this take place?

Answer: in a traffic jam on a bridge

It's apparently a hot day. Dick is obviously frustrated and not only that, but he is backed up in traffic, waiting for a drawbridge. He opens his glove compartment and a pack of cigarettes falls out. At first, he resists the temptation by chewing some gum. Finally, he relents, and lights up a cigarette.

The drawbridge closes, and the traffic moves along. The truck behind him honks and he looks up to see that someone in the car adjacent to him, has observed his transgression.
5. Dick, Jim and their wives are enjoying a celebration dinner to honor Dick's success in the program. What is significant about Jim's wife?

Answer: Her little finger has been cut off.

Dick has finally kicked the smoking habit. Now, his objective is to maintain his weight. Dr. Donatti tells him, that he must keep his weight under 165 pounds. Dick suggests in jest that, if he goes over the weight limit, Dr. Donatti will send someone over to his house with a flamethrower. Dr Donatti replies, "No, I'll send a guy over to your house to cut off your wife's little finger."
6. In the second story, "The Ledge," Cressner bets that the cat, General, will successfully make it across the street.

Answer: True

Mr. Cressner is a compulsive and callous high-rolling gambler. Our hero, the tabby cat, General, is caught in the middle of a busy street, with heavy traffic. Cressner makes a bet with Richard, that the cat can make it through the traffic, to the other side. Richard bets against the cat. Richard tries to coax the cat into the oncoming cars.

When Cressner sees an opening, he calls for the cat. General successfully crosses the street amidst a multiple car collision and Cressner wins his bet.
7. Johnny Norris (Robert Hays) has been having an affair with Cressner's wife. Cressner enacts revenge against Norris by making a seemingly impossible wager. What is the wager?

Answer: Norris must navigate a narrow ledge around Cressner's high-rise building.

Cressner has planted incriminating evidence in Norris's car. It's enough to send Norris to prison for a long time, if Norris doesn't accept Cressner's wager. Norris must walk around a very narrow ledge high atop Cressner's building to successfully win the wager. Cressner has set numerous traps and surprises, not to mention the pesky pigeons, in order to prevent Norris from succeeding.
8. What ultimately causes Cressner to fall off the ledge?

Answer: A pigeon is pecking his leg.

Norris manages to get back inside of the building. Cressner says that he doesn't welch on his bets, but he has decapitated his wife, and plans to do away with Norris. However, the cat intervenes and Norris manages to turn the tables. Norris forces Cressner to walk along the ledge of the building. A pigeon pecks Cressner's leg, and Cressner falls to his death.
9. In "The General," the cat rushes into the house, while Amanda (Drew Barrymore) and her dad are washing the car. Why does General rush into the house?

Answer: General is following a troll.

The story takes place in Wilmington, North Carolina. The first part of the scene is shown through the troll's perspective, as it scampers into the house, grunting and making silly noises all the way into the house. General is in hot pursuit of the troll. Later, General is accused of killing Amanda's parrot.
10. In the final scene of "The General," the clever troll has blocked the door, and is trying to steal Amanda's breath. General intervenes and battles the troll. How does General manage to kill the troll?

Answer: General spins the troll on the record player and it flies into the fan.

General chases the troll around the bedroom. The troll tries to escape by latching onto some balloons. The troll lands on a turntable. General turns on the record player and the troll starts to spin around. Amanda yells, "faster, faster." General obliges, and increases the speed of the record player to 45 rpm, and then 78 rpm.

The resultant force, flings the troll into the fan, where it is mangled. As an aside, the music playing on the turntable was, "Every Breath You Take."
