Enola Holmes (2020) Trivia Quiz

Answer: Alone

Much of the film "Enola Holmes" is narrated by the title character. She explains that she was born in London in 1884 and that it is quite fitting that her name spelled backwards is 'alone' since three of her four close family members were gone from her life at a young age.

Enola idolized her mother growing up but at times wondered why she was not allowed to partake in meetings that her mother had with other women. Her mother's response was that privacy is the most important virtue and the one that is most often violated.

When Mycroft and Sherlock hear of the news of their mother leaving home they both go back to their family estate, Ferndell Hall. While there Enola's older brothers tell her that she is now the ward of Mycroft Holmes and that it is his wish to have her in 'finishing' school. Mycroft considers Enola not ladylike and full of volatile views.

Answer: Dash

Enola's pine cone, Dash, was named after a King Charles Spaniel owned by Queen Victoria that lived from 1830 to 1840. Dash was considered a very close companion to the queen and in 1838 several paintings of Dash were completed by Edwin Henry Landseer.

The pine cone that Enola called Dash had a decorated face on the front as well as four little feet. Later in the film Sherlock gives this pine cone back to Enola telling her that he remembered how much it meant to her.

Answer: Chrysanthemums

It seems that all of the members of the Holmes families enjoy and are good at figuring out coded messages known as ciphers. Enola's mother uses mixed up letters to code the message 'look in my chrysanthemums'. Although Enola's mother owned actual chrysanthemum flowers, she figures out that her mother is referring to paintings that she had done of them.

Answer: Brown bowler hat

Throughout the film Enola and Tewkesbury refer to Linthorn as the man with the brown bowler hat. They first escape the man in the brown bowler hat by jumping off of the moving train into a river. While heading to London Enola cuts Tewkesbury's hair and dresses herself as a high society lady and then as a widow so that hopefully people won't recognize them.

In addition to looking for Enola's mother, she and Tewkesbury also try and figure out the mystery of who hired Linthorn to kill Tewkesbury.

Answer: Inspector Lestrade

Enola gains access to Basilwether by telling the Tewkesbury family that she is the assistant of Sherlock Holmes and she has been hired to look for the missing Viscount Tewkesbury. Inspector Lestrade is also at Basilwether and he doesn't believe that Sherlock hired Enola so he asks her questions about Sherlock that he doesn't think she would know. Enola answers all of Lestrade's questions correctly and eventually she asks a question about Sherlock that stumps Lestrade.

Answer: Reform Bill

Enola and Viscount Tewkesbury determine that since he is going to take over his deceased father's seat in the House of Lords that someone must be trying to kill him based on his intention to vote in favor of the upcoming Reform Bill. Several members of Tewkesbury's family are supporters of traditional views and he figures out that one of them must be trying to kill him because of his support for change.

There were actually several 'Representation of the People Acts' that were known as Reform Bills that were passed in the United Kingdom that provided additional benefits to disadvantaged people, like voting rights. The film, "Enola Holmes", takes some liberties with the timing of the vote for the Reform Bill. While the film takes place in 1900, the six Reform Acts in the United Kingdom were passed in 1832, 1867, 1884, 1918, 1928 and 1969.

Answer: Corkscrew

In flashbacks shown during the film Enola spars with her mother who has taught her martial arts like jujitsu. One maneuver that Enola cannot perform adequately against her mother is the 'corkscrew' that tackles an opponent by locking their legs. However, when faced against a deadly killer, Enola is able to tackle Linthorn utilizing the corkscrew tactic. Linthorn hits his head on a bedpost and with his last words states that he was hired 'by England' to kill Viscount Tewkesbury.

Answer: Millie Bobby Brown

Millie Bobby Brown was born to British parents in the city of Marbella, Spain in 2004. She gained fame in 2016 when the hit Netflix show "Stranger Things" came out. In the show her character, Eleven, has supernatural powers that she uses to protect humanity. Millie Bobby Brown also starred in the films "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" (2019) and "Godzilla vs. Kong" (2021).

Although she had initially agreed to only do one "Enola Holmes" film, Millie Bobby Brown enjoyed the role so much that in 2021 she signed on to do a sequel.
