Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Named as 2010's "sexiest man alive" by People magazine, which Canadian actor stars as the character named Guy?

Answer: Ryan Reynolds

Reynolds is also a producer for the film, working closely with director Shawn Levy to shape the story, his character (Guy) and the world that he inhabits.

The film also stars Jodie Comer who plays the character named Millie (and her in-game avatar: 'molotovGirl').
2. What accessory do the players' avatars wear to distinguish themselves from the non-playable characters like Guy?

Answer: Sunglasses

Guy describes the people wearing sunglasses as "heroes" and says in the opening monologue that they have a devil-may-care attitude and that "they run this town". After commandeering a pair from a would-be bank robber (voiced by Dwayne Johnson), he discovers that the sunglasses also allow the character to see additional information about the world around them e.g. health packs that can be utilised by the avatar, or the amount of experience earned for completing a mission.
3. Guy does the same routine every morning before heading to work. Which of the following is *NOT* one of the steps?

Answer: Flicking a penny into a fountain

Other steps in this routine include pining over some expensive sneakers, checking his bank balance at an ATM, greeting Officer Johnny, and walking to work with his best friend Buddy. Once he starts virtually 'earning' money, Guy finally purchases the sneakers and comically discovers that they come with an activatable jump feature.
4. Reflecting his positive attitude, what word is missing from Guy's catchphrase: "Don't have a good day, have a _____ day."?

Answer: great

Guy says this every morning as he leaves the coffee shop, but also to customers at the bank, and even to random strangers on the street. Millie's avatar has clearly encountered Guy before because when she walks past him on the street, she expects him to say this phrase and is surprised when he instead comments on the music she's playing.
5. Which New Zealand actor plays Antwan, the CEO of 'Free City' publisher Soonami?

Answer: Taika Waititi

Waititi has said that the role of Antwan appealed to him because it was fun to play an antagonist for once - rather than the characters he usually plays who are "usually quite nice".

The incorrect options are all Australian actors. Although Hemsworth and Worthington don't have any involvement in 'Free Guy', Jackman does have a cameo appearance and was actually instrumental in getting the film made by introducing star Ryan Reynolds to director Shawn Levy.
6. Guy becomes known as 'Blue Shirt Guy' whilst trying to gain enough experience to reach level 100. In this First-Person Shooter (FPS) style game, what's so unusual about the way Guy goes about doing this?

Answer: He plays as a 'good guy'.

When Millie explains how to gain experience in order to level up, Guy says that he would never want to hurt anyone so, instead of doing the expected activities in this type of game (e.g. punching, robbing, and killing others), he gains experience by helping the non-playable characters.

He does things like stopping the corner store from being robbed, stopping a girl from being hit by a speeding truck, and generally preventing the players from running amok in the city.
7. When Millie is trying to steal a video clip from a player's stash house, which Soonami employee helps her by virtually 'opening' the door?

Answer: "Keys"

Walter "Keys" McKey co-created a video game called "Life Itself" with Millie before they sold it to Antwan's company, Soonami where he supposedly shelved it. Millie is on a mission to prove that Soonami is illegally using their game's code but Keys has instead taken a job in Soonami's complaints department. Since Millie believes that stealing a particular video clip from the in-game stash house will prove her theory, Keys agrees to help her avatar by 'opening' the stash house's door.
8. Millie and Guy bond over a shared love of which unusual flavour of ice cream?

Answer: Bubblegum

Guy takes Millie down to a quiet part of town and insists she try his favourite flavour of ice cream: bubblegum. Millie is both incredulous and delighted, revealing that bubblegum is also her favourite flavour. After taking a bite, Guy says that his formerly favourite food (coffee) tastes like "liquid suffering" now in comparison.
9. After Millie shows Guy the video clip she was desperately seeking, he reveals that he's seen the vista before. Where?

Answer: Reflected in his apartment's blinds

Millie explains that Antwan hid the original "Life Itself" build beyond the horizon where it can't be reached, but that he forgot to scrub the reflections. It's because of this that Guy can see the island vista on the surfaces of his blinds when he opens and closes them as part of his morning routine.
10. In a final desperate attempt to prevent Guy from obtaining proof of his illegal activities, Antwan introduces an incredibly-muscular adversary on Hitman's Beach. What's the adversary's name?

Answer: Dude

Although incredibly strong, Dude is not a finished character as evidenced by a lot of placeholder lines in his dialogue. A clear example of this is when he tells Guy the three things he loves in life: "kicking ass, TBD, third thing here". Guy is left to battle Dude on his own after Antwan removes all players, including Millie, from the game in an effort to prevent them from uncovering what lies beyond the horizon.
