Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. While John Wayne was known for westerns, he also starred in non-western films. Which of these John Wayne films was not a western?

Answer: The Quiet Man

'The Quiet Man' is set in Ireland. John Wayne portrays an Irish boxer who returns to his native Ireland following the death of his opponent in the U.S. This film was one of five that included Maureen O'Hara, herself a native of Ireland, as his co-star.

Not all of his non-western roles were as lauded; many John Wayne fans cringe at his portrayal of Genghis Khan.

2. Which Heath Ledger movie features Geoffrey Chaucer as an over-the-top herald for a peasant pretending to be a paladin (Ledger) in the Middle Ages?

Answer: A Knight's Tale

"A Knight's Tale" features Heath Ledger as William Thatcher, a peasant who takes on the persona of a knight named Sir Ulrich von Liechtenstein. During his travels, Thatcher comes across Geoffrey Chaucer, whom he hires to make him fake patents of nobility so he can join the jousting circuit. Chaucer then becomes Sir Ulrich's herald for the tournaments and his introductions grow more elaborate as time goes on.

Interestingly, the first tale in Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales" is called "The Knight's Tale".

6. In the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, which character would be most likely to say the phrase "My Precious"?

Answer: Gollum

Originally known as Smeagol, Gollum was compelled to do anything to retrieve and possess the "one ring to rule them all" after it was first found by Bilbo Baggins. He pursued the ring as long as Frodo Baggins possessed it; in the end he was reunited with the ring just before he and the ring sank into a sea of lava in Mount Doom.

Andy Serkis played the role of Gollum in the Peter Jackson trilogy; however, the on-screen character was actually a digital puppet, replacing Serkis own image. On-screen he was depicted as wearing only a loincloth.
