2. How long has Lizzie been living with Cornelia?

Answer: Nearly 20 years

The rest of Cornelia's hired staff had walked out on her, returning to the city after hearing rumors about the Bat releasing rabid bats in the neighborhood.
3. How much money has been stolen from the bank?

Answer: One-million dollars

The money stolen wasn't in cash, it was in bonds and securities, kept in a special vault. Vick Bailey the cashier, and John Fleming the bank founder were the only ones with access to the vault.
4. Who made off with the stolen money?

Answer: John Fleming

John Fleming had founded the Zenith Bank, and managed to steal the money and convert the bonds into cash. He kept the cash hidden in a hidden room at the Oaks, which his nephew had rented out to Cornelia. Seeing that John would be gone the entire summer.

He told Dr. Wells this while they were in the woods. John explained it would be easy and safe to make it look like he'd died, and planned on killing his guide, Sam, and putting him in his place in a casket. During a forest fire, Dr. Wells shot John and took his body back to town, claiming he'd been killed in the fire.
5. Since John Fleming died, strange occurrances have taken place in the Oaks.

Answer: True

Cornelia: "Mr. Fleming will be laid to rest in his family's tomb on Friday."
Lizzie: "I hope he stays there."
Cornelia: "Well why shouldn't he?"
Lizzie: "This is his house, and ever since he died, some funny things have happened here."
Cornelia: "For instance..."
Lizzie: "The housekeeper, the cook and the butler said that they'd heard strange noises at night, and the upstairs maid swore she met a man without a face coming up the back stairs."
6. Lizzie left later, because she'd seen something go on in the house.

Answer: False

Lizzie: "They didn't tell you Miss Corny, but the truth is, they were scared to stay."
Cornelia: "But you're still here, Lizzie! Haven't you seen anything?"
Lizzie: "No, no, and even if I had, I ain't afraid of ghosts...They're afraid of me! Honest Miss Corny, a spiritualist told me once that ghosts was allergic to me."
In two of the previous versions of the movie, the character of Lizzie Allen was terrified of the Bat and even went as far as to set a bear-trap for him.
7. How had the previous victims of the Bat died?

Answer: Their throats had been ripped open

Lizzie: "What are they trying to do? Drive people away from this part of the country?"
Cornelia: "Why? What does it say about the Bat?"
Lizzie: "His speciality seems to be killing women. My goodness, two of them in one night. All his victims died the same way, like their throats had been ripped open with steel claws."
Cornelia: "That's a charming little caper, I'll have to try it sometime...In a book."
8. Lizzie is bitten by a rabid bat.

Answer: False

The Bat had attempted getting into the house through the front door as Cornelia and Lizzie were locking up. Lizzie's scream alerted Cornelia, they bolted the door shut and called the police. With the help of a glass cutter, the Bat unlocked the door, got in the house and right outside their bedroom door just as the police had arrived.

When Cornelia told the officer she had a gun, the Bat left, but later that night when the police went back, he got in again, slipped a bat in through the transom of their room and it bit Lizzie. Dr. Wells was alerted of it, and after inspecting the bat came to the conclusion that it wasn't rabid.

He told Lizzie she had a narrow escape.
9. The second night the Bat is found in the house, Cornelia, Lizzie, Dale and ______ found him out?

Answer: Judy

The Bat got ahold of floor plans, revealing a hidden room on the third floor of the Oaks. After the women had turned in and locked their doors, he sneaked in, headed up to the room with a chisel and hammer and started pounding away at the bottom of a wall. All four women heard the noise, Cornelia tried calling for help but the house phone and the outside phone wires had been cut, Dale and Judy decided to check out the noise to see if they could find the missing money. Dale left Judy on the balcony down the stairs from the 3rd floor, the Bat saw Dale shine her flashlight in, threw her down, went down the stairs, chased Judy down the first set of stairs, caught her halfway down and killed her just as the girls came rushing out of their rooms and Cornelia hurled a fireplace poker at him, striking him in the back of the head.

He left out the back door minutes before Lieutenant Anderson returned with some shocking news.
10. Lieutenant Anderson is the first to arrive at the house after Judy's murder.

Answer: True

Lieutenant Anderson had earlier told the women he'd search the house from top to bottom. Cornelia demanded to know where he was when Judy had been murdered.
Lieutenant Anderson: "I saw a man outside on the grounds. I went out there and hunted him, I heard him among the trees and followed him as far down as the brook down near the back road, and then I lost him."
That man was Warner, Cornelia's chaufer turned butler, when Anderson saw him earlier that evening, he told Cornelia they'd met somewhere before. It wasn't until Warner returned that Anderson realized that the Chicago police had been hunting Warner in connection with the robberies. Warner explained they found him and tried him and he proved his innocence and he was acquitted.
Anderson: "That could've been a lucky break. Where were you when this child was killed?"
Warner: "I told you before, sir, outside."
Anderson: "What were you doing there?"
Warner: "I was following you, I saw you leaving the house and figured you were hunting someone and I thought you might need some help. Oh yes sir, I followed your flaslight down through the trees. Then it disappeared, and suddenly as I'm staring out into the darkness, I was struck by something on the back of the head. The next thing I knew I was laying on the ground, I realized, I'd been knocked out."
11. After that night, the murders held the headlines for days. One night after the chaos had died down and the police and reporters left them alone, Cornelia decided to investigate the hidden room herself.

Answer: True

Cornelia found the hidden room was behind two mantlepieces in two of the rooms on the 3rd floor. Both had five panels, one in the middle, two on the left, and two on the right. Tapping the bottom right one opened the door, and let her in. Cornelia found the safe and as she was trying to crack it, the door closed on her, leaving her trapped inside.

In a short amount of time, the air got cut off from the room as she pounded helplessly on the door to get out, as Lizzie grew frantic when she saw she was missing. Lizzie went downstairs to speak with Mr. Davenport, a guard watching Warner, when she headed downstairs, she saw the door was unbolted, and Mr. Davenport had fallen asleep on the job.
12. After alerting the new servant, Mrs. Patterson, and telling her to get Warner and meet with her in the drawing room, Lizzie went back to Mr. Davenport and found out he'd been knocked out while on the job.

Answer: True

Mr. Davenport: "I took a drink of wine from that decanter there. Miss Van Gorder told me to help myself."
Lizzie: "She wouldn't put nothing in it."
Mr. Davenport: "Well somebody did, somebody who knew I was on duty here."
Lizzie: "Then it was somebody that got Miss Van Gorder. I can't find her anywhere, upstairs, downstairs, or in the basement. I told the housekeeper to get Warner."
13. Mrs. Patterson came to the drawing room with shocking news about Warner. What was it?

Answer: He'd disappeared without a trace

Mrs. Patterson: "Lizzie, Warner isn't in his room, there's no sign of him anywhere."
Mr. Davenport: "I was supposed to keep an eye on that guy."
14. Shortly after finding Cornelia in the hidden room and finding out how to operate it from the inside, they find out the Bat is on the prowl again when they find the garage is on fire.

Answer: True

Cornelia turned off the light in one room on the third floor and told Lizzie to do the same in the next room, and told Mrs. Patterson to watch the stair.
Cornelia: "Can't you see that fire was setting us out of the house?"
Mr. Davenport: "What are you talking about? Are you talking about the..."
Cornelia: "Yes, yes, I'm talking about the Bat. Now that the lights are out, he'll think his trick has worked, and we've gone, he'll be here in a minute."
Mr. Davenport: "So will Detective Anderson."
Cornelia: "I hope so, but the Bat will be here first. And he'll kill again if we get in his way! We've got to be as clever as he is!"
15. Who was the Bat?

Answer: Lieutenant Anderson

Mark Fleming had gone to the house looking for the floorplans, when he found them, the Bat punched him in the throat and stuffed him in the closet. The same night Cornelia was investigating the hidden room, the Bat cornered Dr. Wells at his office and killed him.

After finding out that the ladies and Mr. Davenport hadn't fallen for the flaming garage, he found them and shot Mr. Davenport. Just as he was about to shoot Cornelia, a man shot him from behind. The lights came on and it turned out that Warner was heading to the airport so he wouldn't be a murder suspect. Half-way to the airport he changed his mind and came back. Turning the Bat on his side, Warner lifted the hood, revealing it was Lieutenant Anderson. Cornelia: "With all his ill-gotten gains invested in bank stock.

It's rather a clever way to hide stolen money, in the open as it will, and so respectable. But don't try it, no matter how clever you are. You can't hide murder."
